Anyone have one or know of anyone that has one? I mean if these things actually work, you'd have to be a fool to not have one. Even at the steep cost of a few thousand, that's about the price of a riding mower or one summer of paying someone to cut it. It takes me 2.5 hours to cut my yard with a regular self-propelled mower and if I could pay a fee thousand to get those hours back, its a no-brainer. The fact that nobody has bought these yet, though, tells me they dont work that great.

What would happen if it was cutting a wet, thick lawn & got clogged and stuck?

Not to hijack, but does anyone have one of those iRobot vacuums? Been thinking about getting one, not sure how well they did work with uneven spacing between rooms etc.

more importantly what would happen if it was clogged up with a three year old...

My lawn takes about 2.5 hours as well and I love it... the mowing, the maintenance, the lawn care. That being said, I may look at a 30 inch deck such as the Toro Timemaster when my current rig dies. It has two blades and could save me at least 30 minutes. It's a grand but the step below a riding mower which I want no part of.

how lazy are we that this even exists.. I like cutting my grass, gives me reason to start drinking in the afternoon. you cant tell me anything beats drinking a few beers on a Saturday afternoon after cutting your grass..
reminds me of the guys with 1/3 acre lots needing a riding mowers to save time...to get to the gym...

Ok, that's a long day. I will admit, if I had the yard that would justify it, I'd get one of those 48" ones where you have a little thing to stand on behind it, they are pretty sweet. THey have like 5 gears and you can take it off but you can also stand on it and it has a little wheel under it and you basically just hang on.

You should move from the Dumpster in the local park where you might have a large lawn to low income housing where there are no lawns!

That's the best solution!

I lived in this town house outside of DC where I could cut my grass with a weedwhacker, it was sweet. I mean the lawn sucked but when it came to cutting the grass, you could do it in 3 minutes.

My brother is a "big shot" and has problems giving up his toys.. He makes alot of money, married four times so when he split his money and property with his last wife he moved into some sort of a town home and kept his huge riding mower.

He backs it out of the shed goes forward, backward, forward, backward, maybe one or two more times, wipes the sweat from his forehead and drives it back into the shed???

He gave up on finding someone to marry he now just rents/leases! Cheaper!

It sucks because there is no shade. I'm planting trees and ground cover to reduce the size of the lawn. Those standing mowers look great but I have a lot of steepish slopes and I'm not really ready to spend more than a grand on a mower. Besides, I really need the exercise. That is until I have a heat stroke.

I think you have to put install sensors, like one of those underground electric dog "fences"
I think they actually map your yard out with a GPS for the mower to recognize what to cut. My neighbor uses it and loves it. I'll have to get more details.

These will be all the craze until someone’s dog gets run over ....

Guaranteed to happen

No, these robots are very small and its nothing like a traditional mower with a large dangerous blade. The blade is so small that it only can cut an inch at a time. The way I understand it is that it pretty much cuts every night, all night because it cant let the grass get too high or it wont work.

This would be the most actually useful engine since the cell phone....if it actually works

We had one. A “roomba”???? We have 3 dogs and it was barely ok at a light cleaning. The tray got full quickly on our hardwood floors. Wife finally sent it to Goodwill.

As far as a mower. I would never get a lawn tractor...get a zero turn mower instead. They are much easier to use and maneuverable around trees and corners or curves in your yard. I’ve got a couple of acres to cut and it works great. Of course, daughter #2 likes to get sun occasionally so she will mow for me every once in a while so I can work on the honeydo list

I know a guy that has one, he has a flat lawn with few trees, he says he just programs it and it mows his lawn, it cost him about $2500. Kind of reminds me of the Batmobile.

Good point, mine takes less than an hour, maybe 40 minutes, so it's not a big deal to me,

Wide price range and they do look like toys?
I think I'll wait for the robot guy or girl walking behind the mower or driving my tractor.

Maybe I can get it to do other things like clean out my gutters, trim the property and clean up after Mrs Buffett's horses. I doubt they'd want to do that work?

I have the hoopie special.A John Deere D30.Does ok for me.

Hahaha we have one of those also a John Deere TRS22 snowblower, old, old, old, noisey, two stage that blows snow across the road.

It had some duct tape on the chute but I think Mr Buffett got that part fixed. It has air filled tires which I think are really old school snowblower technology.

We watch our neighbors with new snowblowers that they paid big money for barely getting the snow out of their three car wide driveways.

What keeps someone from pulling up grabbing it and putting it the trunk and driving off?

Crime-free suburbs

Actually, I think its kinda like stealing a cell phone, if you steal it and report it stolen, it wont work for the thief. There's security codes and stuff

You're right but most thieves aren't that smart or they would be doing something more lucrative and less likely for them to end up in jail.

They still steal cell phones and you're right most are locked etc.

Well, now at least you can steal a cell phone and use it as an internet device but still, I don't think people steal cell phones anymore.

Come to think of it, does anyone even steal cars anymore? I remember like in the 80s and 90s, car stealing was a big thing. They had to come out with The Club to prevent it and nobody even buys that anymore.

Maybe car stealing has gone the way of pick-pocketing which used to be huge but doesn't even exist anymore in this country. Pick-pocketing is still going strong in Europe believe it or not. I'm always amazed by the signs and warnings I see about pick-pocketing when in Europe. In fact, in Paris, I am pretty sure I was approached by a would-be pick-pocketer who tried to engage me in conversation.

Cell phones and cars are still top on the stolen item list in NY, NJ, and Eastern PA.
Cars ( high end & SUV's) are now stolen to order or stolen and quickly loaded on a ship to get them out of the US fast.

There's a very large market for US SUV's and top end cars in other countries.

Just recently they busted a chop shop in Eastern PA. That's a place where they bring stolen cars which are stripped down immediately the parts are sold, and the bodies melted down or crushed with VIN #'s taken off.
Places like that are all over NY and NJ and they're beginning to move into Eastern PA.

Plus we see reports of the " joy riders" stealing cars in one place and dropping them off in another just for the ride or the thrill of stealing the car. Some gangs have that as an initiation requirement. I learned that from a PA State Police friend of mine.

Not ready for robotic lawnmower but I have been thinking of switching to a rechargeable battery electric mower. Are these comprable to gas mowers or do they still have a way to go.

I know of a guy (I worked with his wife) who had a fairly large-sized lawn, and he would cut his grass with a riding lawnmower. This guy loved to drink beer; he had a tap-system setup in his garage where he could drive his mower right into his garage, pull-up to the tap, and refill his mug without having to get off the mower. He'd then drive out and keep cutting. At first, I thought his wife was kidding, so she brought a video of him in action to show me. I thought they only did stuff like that in West Virginia.....
