OT: Station Square Condos

those bars down there on north shore drive are so blah, same thing its ridiculous. bar louie, Jerome bettis bar, if you are inside one, can you even differentiate the two. the foundry next to it, tequila whatever, southern tier, I mean different layouts but all same thing and they just completely over saturated that area with boring cookie cutter bars..

I’ve been a whole different level of drunk inside tequila cowboy around 6 pm after a noon kickoff on Saturdays. I have never understood how I end up there but I always do

Does anyone actually get upset when Chain restaurants close?

Must agree. I hate seeing people lose their job, but to me Chain Restaurants are the worst. The only 2 I can tolerate are Cracker Barrel (I'm a northerner from an Italian heritage background so this is the only place I know for chicken and dumplings) and Texas Roadhouse are the only 2 I am willing to go to. Otherwise, give me a mom and pop place if i am not eating a home cooked meal.

the high end steak house chains are good (Ruth Chris, Mortons, Fogo). McCormick & Schmick is decent. But yeah, chains like Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Bravo.....not a big fan.

does anyone get upset when any restaurants close? If it's closing, it's because no one goes there anymore..

Im trying to think of a good restaurant (Chain or no chain) that closed, that i was mad about. nothing is coming to the top of my head.. there was a decent little place in dormont that served good hot dogs. cant get a good hot dog in Pittsburgh btw. this place closed, think the owner robbed a bank or something.

Mad/sad is also bad words to describe it. Wishing it was still open yes, but mad or sad, no. There was a place in Washington on 19 called Curinga's (or something like that), that had the best lobster bisque that closed mid 2000's. A great Italian restaurant (there are only a few Italian Restaurants i like) in Mt Washington called Portabella (like the mushroom) closed mid 2000's. Hell the biggest/busiest restaurant in Pittsburgh Tambllini's on RT 51 closed because the owners just got old and retired. While I agree with you that most close because they are bad, there are a few that closed for other reasons.

I was a teen when suddenly all the Ponderosa Steak House restaurants closed. I was so bummed, I loved that place. Cheap yet not disgusting steaks AND a decent pigout worthy salad bar AND you could get your own unlimited drinks and soft serve.

For me it was Rax. Growing up in the south, Rax was everywhere. Food was good for fast food and they all had that solarium I found cool for some reason. Not a tremendous restaurant but good memories as a kid.

Another that is southern-specific would be Morrison's Cafeteria. Place was a relic but we ate there once a week and the food was good.

I had my first date with my eventual wife at the rather short lived Rax in Oakland. We were on some Greek Week committee thing, and made up a reason to meet there for lunch to "go over it". Why there, to this day, I don't remember. But we were a bit bummed when it later closed (married by then). Heck I think they tore the building down, didn't they?

Sigh. All the greats of my time in oakland gone... Rax ... before it, White Tower ... Zeldas...Skanktuary ... Calecos ... Roy Rogers ... Chicken Charlies ... Sheetz
... Capri Pizza ("can you hold?") ... now even the Arby's, Uncle Sam's and Peters. At least Dave and Andys and Lulu's Noodles survived.

There is still a Ponderosa in Butler. My Father In Law loves that place so we go on occasion when we visit. Not good but not bad for what it is.

Uncle Sam’s in Oakland

Hot dog chili sucks most places
Except new castle

Plenty of good places lose for a variety of reasons-
Owner gets too old, rent gets too high, etc

Portabella’s on mt Washington was our go to date place. In Bloomfield the place were Station now is (tabellini’s?).

E2 in highland park.

Uncle Sams in Oakland closed? Is Fuel and Fuddle still open?

What was in the Miami Subs location before Miami Subs?

I actually ate at primati’s Saturday.

MAy have been the 24 oz head
Hunter-
But capicola and cheese add an egg tasted good with some hot sauce

Poli closing- Obviously went down hill at the end.

Not Piccolo forno but another restaurant closed and now reopened that was good.

That place nearly killed a friend of mine. He ate there everyday and had a massive heart attack.

Personally, I miss Pechin's restaurant. We were poor and would make a day out of driving up there to buy groceries. The food was terrible but it was always kind of cool when my mom let us get that fried dough thing if we ate our ten cent hamburger.

I do miss the original Pechin's, definitely a unique experience.
