The gambling aspect of Las Vegas is causing some serious legal quandaries for the NFL. Players are strictly prohibited from taking betting in any capacity prior to the game. Apparently, this is being ignored as players are openly playing slots, table games, betting books, etc. No one is accusing any players of openly betting on the Super Bowl but the rules of gambling are being ignored. I don't think many of us care about a player playing black jack or slots, but it actually may make bets made on the Super Bowl moot if a player's winning or losing can be attributed to their success/failure on the field. If Brock Purdy lost $25,000 in black jack at the MGM......he could conceivably be influenced to perform a certain way in the Super Bowl. I highly doubt the Super Bowl is ever played in Las Vegas again.

Dude, this is the league who embraced Ray Lewis and rehabilitated his image. This is the league who have ray rice only a 2 game suspension for abusing women until there was video evidence and then they were left with no choice. This is also the league who has inexplicably pimped for Myles Garrett everywhere they could until he was named their defensive poster child last night. The same Myles Garrett who used his helmet as a weapon and then accused a good man of being a racist as an excuse. That’s pretty high up on the P.O.S. ladder and instead of just sweeping it under the rug, they go all in on him.

I predict a Vegas Super Bowl will be in heavy rotation like Miami, LA, and New Orleans used to be.

las vegas is pretty much a perfect nfl super bowl destination. lets face it, the super bowl events, parties are bigger than the game. it's been like this for quite some time now..

i think you are reaching.

the game is moot, i just want to see taylor swift and her girlfriend, kelce.. toxic masculinity must be defeated..
Hey at least we have Toby Keith to thank for giving Swift her break. She’s fine. Not my cup of tea but I hope she dumps that ahole Kelce after the Super Bowl, becomes a free agent and signs with the Steelers and picks George Pickens as her next beau.

Which part of this is a disaster?

I think the Super Bowl and Vegas are a perfect marriage. It should be played there every year. Fairly central, location, Great weather, Plenty of hotel and restaurant capacity and lots for visitors to do.

As for the players playing table games concern and that Brock Purdy hypothetical, seriously, WTF?

I agree about the NFL....they are nothing short of money grubbing whores. The problem exists with the betting books/companies. The Super Bowl is the largest betting day of the year. If a player has broken the rules (by gambling/betting)..... all of those bets are now off the table. Do you know how much money will be lost by the betting companies?

The Brock Purdy hypothetical is nonsense.

You reach the pinnacle of professional sports in North America and let a bad night of blackjack impact your game? Balderdash.

If these guys really want to gamble, they can do it from their cell phone. NFL keeps saying, "integrity of the game" but then slaps the Patriots on the wrist every time they find a new way to cheat. It's a bargaining chip in the union contract, just like weed.

It's a tale as old as time.....player loses a bunch of money gambling and decides to do a "small" favor to reduce his financial debt. Are you saying this does not occur?

agree completely. Las vegas is absolutely perfect in every way, shape and form for NFL super bowl host in the 21st century world we live in..

Umm, the Super Bowl has been in cities with casino's multiple times and I don't think there's any rule against players playing table games and slots in a legal casino. When the Super Bowl was in Detroit, I saw Ben and Max Starks playing blackjack and other Steelers wandering around the casino, this was the Wednesday before the game.

Brock Purdy isn't going to risk the payday he's going to get when his contact is up, along with the endorsement money he's getting and will get because he lost 25K at Caesars Palace. The amount that would needed to be bet for a starter to tank in the Super Bowl would raise so many red flags that the books both legal and illegal would turn the bet away and report it.

Las Vegas is going to be a regular stop in the Super Bowl rotation, along with Miami, New Orleans, and LA.

new nfl policy pertaining to this superbowl is pretty strict. they cant gamble at all, obviously it's not being enforced but it's written.

Super Bowl policy: Players participating in the game are NOT allowed to gamble on anything at all while in Vegas.

The new rule is simple: If you play for the Chiefs or 49ers, you're not allowed to gamble while you're in Vegas. You can't play casino games, you can't bet on sports, you can't do anything.

I think you may be missing the point, the player's betting alone could give a lawsuit against the betting books enough firepower to force the betting companies to return money to the gamblers.

honestly, is it asking too much to prohibit players from two teams to not gamble for 2 weeks before the super bowl?

I mean, these guys are all millionaires, they can go to vegas 50 other weeks of the year and gamble their hearts out. Is asking them to not play the gaming tables a week before the super bowl really that harsh?

Wait til after the game, beta million dollars all on red with a hooker on each arm and a bag of coke waiting for you in your hotel room, just wait til AFTER the game.. this isnt that hard..

Lmfao. That link only talks about NFL players not being allowed to gamble. Which I knew and I suspect others did too since it’s been a topic. It doesn’t support anything else you posted which is exactly as I suspected.

What pleasure do you get out of the garbage you often post?
not sure what his link says but the nfl did make a new rule, specific to this superbowl and the players playing in it..

i mean, it's pretty much the las vegas rule. the players literally cant gamble in casinos, on games, on table and with slots, before the super bowl. it's pretty cut and dry.

I dont know if it's happening, in this day and age im sure there would be a million videos of kelce or purdy or whoever, rolling dice at the table or playing blackjack. Maybe they exist, i just dont see them so i think this all may be us talking about something that isnt even happening..

I didn't know that, have there been any reports of anyone from KC or SF gambling? I haven't seen any so how can you call this Super Bowl a disaster.

Also, both teams are staying way out in Lake Las Vegas, which is basically as far away from The Strip as you can get, and it looks like neither hotel has a casino.
i dont think it would be too hard for an nfl player to get an uber to the strip. if they were so inclined.

but yes, the hotels being out there wasnt an accident. again, if these guys are gambling in casinos, plenty of cell phones out there for people to upload it on social media for us all to see..

again, i think an nfl player even putting themselves in that position would be stupid. just wait til game is over and get nuts at the casinos where no one cares and you wont force the nfl to possibly suspend you.

Dude, you can gamble in gas stations out there. Maybe the guy at the Sunoco will have Purdy shaving points for the roll of quarters he owes him?

well you can buy lottery cards at sunocos here too but yeah, i get your point. every place has slot machines.

finding this in a lot of states. i used to go out to North Dakota for business and the damn local watering hole, dive bars all had gaming tables there, state regulated blackjack tables. it was crazy, and dangerous, well for me cause i like blackjack and unfortunately dont have an nfl player salary..

I know. And that’s been my point. He made some wild claims about players gambling. There’s nothing to support that. ZERO. But trolling is his MO.

yeah, a few "reaches" to say the least. so purdy loses at the slots will create a lawsuit that will make all super bowl bets null and void lol.

i wasnt even going to try and comprehend this to be honest..

well if you want to be technical, the most geographically centralized state in the US is actually South Dakota. that's taking alaska and hawaii into account. i think we should not have a super bowl in south dakota..

use 48 states, its Northern Kansas.. again, not exactly "accessible" to most nfl fans.

im not even a huge vegas guy but again, party city, accessible to travel to, enough hotels, entertainment for all and the ability to host millions with little effort, Las Vegas as a super bowl host city is a no brainer..

Brock Purdy's slot machine gambling vice not withstanding..

There have been machines at a bunch of places like that around here for years. Loose Moose, Stop N Go in West Mifflin, etc. There's no way anyone could possibly be playing them with any hopes of actually winning a dime, lol. Like, they're obviously not regulated and not paying out knowing they'll be audited.

My friend did "hit" on a machine at a bar near the Waterfront years ago, but it was hardly life-changing money.

My aunt and uncle spent every day of their lives at the Pleasant Hills Legion playing the machines in a smoke-filled room - this is going back to the 80s or 90s - so I've never understood what was legal and what wasn't. Like, why were those out in the open while others were in a backroom? I think part of what they did was only paying out to people they knew and claiming it was entertainment only for everyone else.

the local bar i go to in south park, the machines hit pretty regularly. it's crazy, the payouts come from a state regulated box, like an atm machine but controlled by the state. so i think it's on the level, i think. you win, a card comes out and you put it into the machine and the money comes out, like i said, similar to a pre-paid atm card..

obviously the machines are programmed to collect more than they pay but it hits, the state gets their money, the bar owner gets a cut and everyone is happy..

These machines, they have the money it will pay out and you can watch it rise, once it gets to about 4500, it seems to always hit, at least for the last few years i've been paying attention. Never gets over 5k..

i agree with the old days and the little poker machines at the bars. was kind of shady to say the least but dont think it was that much of a planned scam. no more than the local bar having a super bowl block poll IMO.

That's pretty much how it worked, if they knew you or someone you were with you got paid and if they didn't know who you were yinz got nothing.

Now with these "skill" machines I guess everyone gets paid.

Anyone remember Ladbrokes? I grew up basically within walking distance of one, but I don't think I was ever inside. I think they actually regulated who came in. My uncle was a doctor who basically checked every "unwind from a stressful job" box (drinking, smoking, gambling, and golfing), so he went there any time they would come to visit. Was it just a bunch of pre-taped horse races on the televisions that you bet on?

I am hearing about record high ticket prices for this game, so Vegas obviously seems to be a popular destination amongst the fans. It might help that Vegas is relatively close proximity to the two teams playing?

There was one out in west mifflin we went to a few times. i just assumed the races were live but yeah, now that i think about it, we went on a like a monday at noon in the winter so the "pre-recorded" races now makes sense..

They might have been live. I'm just assuming there wouldn't be enough content for them to just show live races all day. But I'm honestly not sure what all was in there as far as other entertainment (a bar, etc.) goes. I assume they at least served food.

I'm not going to find every tweet I have seen and post it but this link talks about how Joe Buck feels about the situation in Vegas and the mess it is going to potentially cause. He knows better then to talk about the gambling situation with the NFL and the legal bookies. Especially considering how much the NFL gains from that partnership. All it takes is one person gambling and all those Super Bowl bets could be GONE.

Potentially. So for now that’s all there is.

Nobody has ever named themselves more aptly than you. Although id suggest considering changing it to jiveturkey.
