Yea, I know there's not any excuse for Michigan State to lose that game but the committee did Sparty wrong on 2 fronts:
1. MSU barely missed a 1 seed and were seeded as the best 2 seed. MTSU, who I seeded as a 14, were slotted as the best 15 seed. In theory, the best 2 is supposes to play the worst 15. That's how bracketing works. Yet, Xavier, who was the #8 overall seed played Weber State, the lowest-seeded 15 seed. If you knew how to run a bracket, MSU should have played Weber State and Xavier should have played MTSU. I mean that is pretty simple Bracketing 101. To make things simpler all those games were in St. Louis so its not like the were trying to keep teams in certain cities.
2. The other thing was that MTSU finished 2nd in CUSA, going 13-5. I realize CUSA was decimated by realignment but it is one of the best mid-major leagues. If you go 13-5 in one of the best, if not the very best mid-major league, there's no way you get a 15 seed. That's just ridiculous.
