OT: The Masters......

I was never the biggest Tiger fan, but always respected his greatness. And this Masters was another example of how great he was. Speith is fantastic, a great golfer who is going to win a lot of big tournaments (he already has two). Even a guy like McIroy same thing. Tiger would never ever blow up like that in his prime.

For Speith, it was not even the tee shot at 12 that went swimming. It was the chunk from the drop zone that killed him. If he makes bogey there then righted himself like he did, he wins.

On a semi related note....the best golfers (right now) to never have won a major.
1) Dustin Johnson
2) Henrik Stenson
3) Sergio Garcia
4) Lee Westwood
5) Matt Kuchar

Making the putts wins. tiger made the putts. They all hit the ball a mile and are stars at the tee box. Drive for show putt for dough. Speith's tin cup moment was a lesson in not trying to mail it in. Stay in your tempo and attack mode when the shot is there. Prevent defense is not the way to go.

Speaking of hitting it a mile? Anyone see McIlroy drive 14? He had a 16 footer for Eagle (missed) and Dustin Johnson just bombed it over the green? That's just insane. I think it played 360 yesterday.

I just read an article that stated Tiger's score when he was on one of his runs beat the field 89 rounds in a row. That's staggering. The author said its the best streak of all time including DiMaggio's. The next best was only in the 30s. However the stats only go back to 1983 so no telling what someone like Hogan did. Nevertheless that is unbelievable.

As far as slow play - he's likeable as a person . But Jason Day has become insufferable. And he's not alone. Slow play truly is the scourge of golf.

Great picture of Sam. Thanks for sharing.

By the way, he dumped his shot of wiskey into a tumbler of white milk, swirled it around, drank it while eating his breakfast and then went out to start his Thursday round of the tournament. He was probably 62 at the time.

No embellishment at all. Totally factual.

What's even more interesting about the slow play is that quick golfers like Rory and Dustin have had to consciously slow their game down to cut down on the frustration of standing and waiting at every hole.

Sergio is the ultimate in choking. How many times has he been in the mix and yet never wins????

Sergio is a total head case. And I don't think he's capable of putting well enough over 4 days.

Stetson's ball striking is probably top 5 but struggles with the putter and the driver. But he hits his 3 wood 300 so that can be dealt with. But he's another that will struggle with 4 good days of putting over 4 days at a major.

DJ is a cement head but my goodness can he hit some shots. That shot on 15 the other day was up there with Phil from the pine straw on 13 a few years back. And his putting - ooooff. He had so many chances from 15-20 feet. He was probably the best in the field from tee to green but his short game and putting especially - stunk.

I still think DJ gets one major somewhere. He's so good his talent alone should be good for at least one. But I think he's the only one on that list who gets it done.

And Fowler probably belongs on that list ahead of Westwood. Great career but hasn't done much in USA. But it's debatable. Can make an argument over Kuchar at this point too.

In addition to seeming like a good guy Snedeker has become one of my favorites. He doesn't mess around with any shot. He steps in and hits it.

Snedeker cant close out tournaments or match play events. But he's a likeable player and does play fast.
If DJ could get his short game and putting in order he'd be hard to beat.
Although when DJ was on his rehab stint he "putted" pretty well with Will McKenzie and Duffner's wives! Both are divorced now.
But I do believe Mr. Gretsky had some hockey guys visit DJ late one night with hockey sticks and he changed his ways?

2016 Ryder Cup 9/27-10/2 Hazeltine National Golf Club Chaska Minn.

If its not snowing in MN in October this will be interesting.

Match play is fun to be there in person.
Stroke play tournaments I'd rather watch on TV at home.
Indeed. I have always enjoyed watching the Ryder Cup on TV and the groups of people cheering - think more Phoenix Open than Augusta. ;)
