Anyone who likes hockey was, I’m sure, watching the Blues/Sharks overtime tonight. The officials missed an obvious hand pass by San Jose's Timo Meier which lead directly to Erik Karlsson’s game-winning goal.
This is now the second massively controversial call to go in San Jose’s favor this postseason. Earlier in the spring, the Sharks were gifted an undeserved five-minute major against Vegas, which ultimately was the difference in them advancing.
This would be like the LA Rams getting away with the obvious defensive pass interference in New Orleans and then also getting away with an obviously trapped catch attempt to win another playoff game.
I think the NHL will now give replay officials much broader powers going forward. I thought it might happen after the poor Vegas call. However, now I’m sure of it. Honestly, I’m not sure that’s necessarily a good thing, but it’s definitely going to happen.
