(Long read) I was pumped up this afternoon when I saw we were wearing the retro uniforms for the ACC CHAMPIONSHIP this weekend. It got me thinking about next year’s look and the supposed rebrand.
Hear me out. I believe that Pitt has leaked their new branding for next year already, specifically the font. Take a look at all the new retro uniforms debuted this year
They all have a deeper blue and gold than the current retro football uniforms and all have the same font. The font is important because 1) in the past, Pitt olympic sports teams have had different fonts and 2) it’s a unique font. By unique, I mean that it’s not one of the stock fonts that’s available for mass production (high school, non-P5 schools, etc.), but similar to the torch cut or the current cathedral numbers. I couldn’t find any other school who uses this, and it’s not available on their Nike TEAM site online.
Additionally, in the past Pitt olympic sports have used generic stock fonts that’re available to anyone. This new, unique goes along with Lyke’s vision of having a streamlined brand used across the entire athletic department.
This means that this is a special font Nike made for us and only us. Because of this, I believe that this font will be used by the rest of athletic department, along with football, when they make the switch to retro full-time next year.
Going off of this I believe that the volleyball and soccer retros debuted this year will be the full-time uniforms starting next year, as has been mentioned on here before. (Perhaps @bwh05 can add to this) In addition, we get an idea of what the football uniforms may look like. They could be dark blue with yellow numbers/white outlining in the new font.
Again, this is all speculation and just my two cents. Very much looking forward to this Saturday’s game. H2P.
