I doubt they ever return to Erin Hills. I was out for a while yesterday and when I turned it on I was shocked with -10 scores. No US Open should have scores like that. Now today the wind is so bad the balls are moving on the putting surfaces.

I get the Open where the courses are all about the intimidating weather conditions, but the US Open has been about selecting hard course that can stand alone and not be dependent on wind.

JMO.

Should be a very interesting day if this continues.

After the last few years the USGA was scared s-less so they were pretty conservative. Add to that weather conditions favorable to shooting lower scoring and that's why this is where it's at particularly yesterday. The first 2 days it certainly wasn't brutal as we've seen in past years but it wasn't super easy. You can be sure today will look much different with the wind, especially later today as that wind dries things out some.

I actually think they may go back. The only complaint I heard is that it sucks for the fans. The rope lines are way too far away from the action.

It's a clown course. I am wondering where the Windmills are and the big Clown head to putt through. What a disgrace. There is hardly any trouble. AND......Jesus, I understand money rules, but my god, please......GET THE US OPEN OFF OF FOX!!! They suck. Except for Holly Saunders. Wow. Anyways....

The US Open should be like the British Open and have a rotation of 5-7 "classic" courses like Oakmont, Shinnecock, Merion, Winged Foot, Olympia, Pinehurst, etc.... And just go with those.

There are alot of guys who can win it, which should make it interesting, but not at -12 or better. This seems more like the Greater Hartford Open or John Deere Classic than a US Open. And the Leaderboard reflects this.

That all being said, where is this new wave, new generation of golfing superstars? For all of those guys navigating this course at -8 or better, to not have Day, Rory, DJ make the cut, and Spieth a complete non factor is a disappointment. What happened there?

And these Links style courses, hey the UK Open (the Open) gives us those, why do we have to emulate those style courses?

Doesn't feel like a real US Open without Jim Furyk in the top 5 heading into the final round. I expect most of these leaders to falter but he's probably too far back at -3.

I will be nice, however, to not have to watch him spend seven minutes looking over every three foot putt that the has.

Mr. Pitt girl and I were both remarking that except for Koepka, we didn't know any of the others on the leaderboard.

Re: Holly Saunders, don't take this the wrong way as personally I am one of the most un-threatened females when it comes to beautiful women, but she doesn't fit in with a major golf tournament. She is a very beautiful woman with a fantastic body but her choice in clothes looks ridiculous on a golf broadcast. The NFL? The NBA? Absolutely. Golf? No way. Comes off as cheap and desperate.

By the way, it's obvious now that part of the USGA's failure was not doing what they normally do at these courses, namely turning a couple of short par fives into really long par fours, or even shortening up the par four that lots of guys have been trying to drive this week by a little bit and turning it into a monstrously long par three. Sure, they still wouldn't like the way that the scoring has gone, but if the leader coming into today was at six under instead of 12 under it wouldn't look so bad, and yet they'd have shot the exact same score.

I like the course.

Would recommend this weeks SI article on the man who out of nowhere came to be the driving force behind the building of this course...but who now sits in jail for the murder of his wife after his dream to bring a course like this to Wisconsin ended in tragedy.

But back to the tourney , the USGA wants to bring public courses, new type courses into play...let the Brits be stuffy about it.

Oakmont et al will always be there as standby but changing it up is good.

Yesterday jmo was a very entertaining day for golf...suspect today an important element of this course's difficulty, ie the conditions , will appear & settle the scores....

Plus

Johnny Miller pulled that 63 out of his A$$ to best Arnie....to hear him crying about the record by JT was worth it ALL.

True story.....

A buddy of mine has a sister that years ago worked for JP Morgan on Wall Street. This girl never picked up a club in her life...and had no interest in ever playing.

So JP Morgan organizes this corporate outing with their big clients in Orlando......and my buddy's sister goes to Orlando to entertain her clients.

Johnny Miller was brought in to give lessons to these clients....pretty cool right? Well the sister gets to take a private lesson with JM.

After two swings....Miller says to this girl.....' really....your swing is awful......there is nothing I can do to help you.....I'm wasting my time here...."

imagine the embarrassment she felt.......

Johnny Miller was a smackoff then....and given his comments yesterday i see very little has changed.......

When I saw 44 players under par after the first round I said the same thing. I think the cut line was +1, which sometimes is a winning score in the US Open. Give me Oakmont any day.

Johnny Miller is simply a no nonsense guy who doesn't believe in sugar coating things. Could he have been nicer to that girl. Sure. But then he wouldn't have been Johnny Miller.

He was a great golfer and his 63 in the final round at Oakmont is still the best 18 hole round ever played.

I actually like him as an announcer, but was sure he would be bitching about the record...and he did

He won 2 Majors, big deal , but that doesn't qualify as greatness not by a long long shot.

He's from Lancaster too - went to my high school (Manheim Township) so I always like to see him do well!

Well FWIW, reportedly Nick Faldo was a total bastard when he was a player, but now he's a terrific commentator.

That would be Sir Nick

And his caddy was named Fanny , so he had that going too:)
Which is nice.

I've liked the course. Rewards good shots and strategy, punishes the hell out of mistakes, and has led to a balanced leaderboard despite rain killing any hopes for "firm and fast". Greens are exceptional in terms of how they allow for pin positions to change entire holes. People feared that the rain would lead to a big advantage for the bomb-and-gouge players, but we've seen so far that it hasn't been the case.

Holly Sonders was dressed like a cocktail waitress at a Las Vegas night club. Her tits and ass were everywhere. Brad Faxon was discussing curves and angles of the fairway on a particular hole. The curves and angles were 6 feet away from him. It was rediculously ironic 2 minutes of golf course commentary Yes she is beautiful but WTF. Put her in a nice golf shirt and skirt perhaps.

Not sure if anyone heard the story told earlier today but Harman and Fowler were tied for the lead in the NCAA Golf Tournament. I guess Harman pulled off an unbelievable putt and saw Fowler had turned and was walking away. Supposedly Harman was very insulted and thought he was being disrespected.

I don't know the first thing about Harman - he could be a great guy, but he sounds like a punk in that story.

But what is Erin Hills "defense"? It being really windy? Being really windy makes all courses harder to play. And it's not like the wind normally blows 20 mph faster in Wisconsin than it does everywhere else.

The Fried Egg has done some pretty good write ups on Erin Hills this week. It's a site that's centered on golf course architecture and does a really nice job laying out the strategy behind the course and its setup.

I don't believe that's quite correct. Fowler walked away and didn't put the flag back in which in college is poor etiquette. They don't have caddies so the players do everything. Harman got mad, birdied the last 3 and spanked little Rickie. Rickie then cried. I like Rickie but he was out of line in this story.

Well, they certainly didn't add in any of those details telling the story on Fox.

I can add a story about Johnny Miller - my wife worked at the Pinehurst Hotel at the US Open here in 1999...he said that of all of the players/announcers/celebrities etc that she had contact with, Miller's was the nicest.

Said Vijay and Tiger never looked at anyone and said zero...Mike Weir was very nice - Bryant Gumbel and Boomer Esiason were arrogant jerks.

Harman was Spieth/Thomas/Cantlay on the amateur circuit before Spieth/Thomas/Cantlay.

Dominated Junior golf, 3x All-America at UGA.

Just doesn't have the length necessary to contend on a weekly basis on the PGA Tour. He just has no chance when the tournament is held at one of the myriad long, straight, narrow courses.

Koepka golf's future star!
You heard it here on the Panther Lair!
Mrs. Buffett would like some "private" golf lessons from Mr Koepka!
Koepka, Harman, or Fowler will work!
I hope Fleetwood and Matasyama get lost in the high grass until Monday.

This is so much better than the NBA.
More golf, more baseball, more hockey, more womens beach volleyball ( now we're talking), more NASCAR, more Indy Car, LESS NBA.
Oh I forgot its over!

People love to forget that Miller shot his 63
On an Oakmont that was completely rain-soaked - including Johnny himself.

And Sonders looks like a caricature with those cartoonishly fake tits on that skinny body.

After the week at Oakmont, the crew was playing on Monday morning last year before heading out. Saunders had to stop us in the clubhouse and ask me and my buddy where #1 was. I was happy to get an up close look at her (did not disappoint) but man she must be dense to be that confused after being at the club all week.

Millers pretty much considered to be a really good person to people he comes in contact with privately.

The top 20 guys aren't out on the course yet but there are 13 guys even par or better so far today. It won't play as easy as it has the rest of the week, but there is no comparison between the "teeth" of this course and places like Oakmont.

Hey Phil, 23 guys at or below par on Sunday at the US Open. If that was Erin Hills showing it's teeth, what would it not showing it's teeth look like?

Oh, yeah, the rest of this week.

Not much penalty for a bad shot that we are used to but oh well. Each open has different characteristics. If it rotated from oakmont, bible and pinehurst 2 every year, things would get stale. Need to inject some new courses in this.

What hurts golf is they need some star power. "The field" is as good as it ever was, the next wave of young up and comers are lacking any personality or charisma.

You didn't know of Rickie Fowler?

Course was way too easy for a US Open. Way too easy. I lost interest before I even turned on the TV because of the scores.

I normally watch the US Open every year along with the other majors. I want the US Open to be tough, to have pars being good scores, etc... Having this many players under par and killing the course is simply not my cup of tea. Let those types of scores be for every other week on the tour. If one guy obliterated the course like Woods did the one year at Pebble Beach then ok fine, credit to the one guy. But way too many under par scores for my liking at a US Open.
