I just saw an article from a few days ago. The lawyer for Vandenberg has been disbarred for extortion. It was not in the Vandy rape case, but another case. Sounds like a real classy guy.

People always hate "sleazy" lawyers. Until they need one. When that happens, who wants THEIR lawyer to be a meek unsavvy milquetoast? Damn right. Nobody.

What's interesting are the 'infamous' local defense lawyers that always appear in the news with the most heinous local criminals. Interesting in the sense that I suspect they probably represent such guys for free to get the pub, so that lesser criminals will see and know of them (and pay heartily). Is this how it typically works? Otherwise I wonder how really impressive it can be, since those guys typically still don't get bail, still don't get reduced sentences, typically these star lawyers don't produce any eureka-glove-must-fit moments for them. Those guys still lose. It's kind of like Graham and Chryst getting better jobs and more money for going 6-7.

great lawyers get better deals..fact. The DA takes into account who counsel on the other side is when evaluating whether or not a case will go to trial. Sometimes 20 years instead of 25 or 30 is a huge win. And yes, if the case is airtight, even the best lawyers get their clients sent to prison for life. If you would rather hire a kid fresh out of lawschool with no experience than the local hotshot when the stakes are high (prison) to save some money... I hope you don't pick your surgeon on the same basis.

On another note, Urban Meyer wouldn't win a national title at Iowa State...doesn't mean he isn't the best coach.....so yes, I can see it both ways. The best lawyers are not necessarily the ones that make the most noise and are in the press.
