OT: What the heck??

I saw it and felt NOTHING! It's a society full of weaklings offended by the tiniest offense.

We need to create strategies to increase toxic masculinity everywhere.
Agree. I think there is a lot of fake outrage over it from folks that want to stir controversy and hate. The Steeler celebration was nothing more than an unfortunate mistake.

A real man knows when something like this is a poor choice given what just happened. If you think there is a need to defend masculinity, you don't know what being a man is all about.

It was poor timing for that kind of celebration. Nothing more, nothing less. I’m sure that Hamlin and his family and friends didn’t find that amusing.

That being said, Highsmith should just apologize and everyone should move on. It has nothing to do with masculinity… Just common sense…

Would you have the same view if he weren't a stiller? Admit he was wrong and it was inappropriate.

why anyone would be offended by this, other than maybe hamlin or his family, is beyond me. and i doubt they care very much, probably have more on their mind at the moment than this. it didnt happen to you so why are you upset? It makes no sense..

and yes, i'd feel the same if a brown or a bengal did it. i wouldnt care.

I think I would. I love Pitt way more than I love the Steelers. And I love Damar way more than any Steeler, with the possible exception of Kenny.

If it weren't already a celebration that has been done many times in the past, I would view it differently. But it is tough for these guys in the heat of a game to fully think through something. Total mistake. Total lack of judgement. But I don't think it is an indication of lack of class. But to call it classless and be outraged insinuates that they full well knew what they were doing with the intent on making fun of the tragedy of last Monday night. And that is where I get stuck. I don't believe that they intended to mock what happened to Damar.

The players involved should apologize for not thinking through it and that should be that.

Theyve done that all year. But it’s still very tone deaf, even though I’m sure not I’ll willed.

I’d still to know who the guy doing it was. It wasn’t Highsmiths fault, but I’d like to hear an apology from the culprit.

This might be behind a paywall but ..
sports Steelers LB Alex Highsmith addresses CPR sack celebration in light of Damar Hamlin incident
Highsmith was contrite Monday in the locker room, clarifying that it had nothing to do with what Hamlin went through. He realized after the game that it was blowing up on social media, immediately thought back to that play and remembered it well. In the moment, he was just tired from playing all but two snaps and didn’t make the connection.

“I just don't want people to think of me that way and think I was doing anything [intentional],” Highsmith said. “Because I would never, ever, ever, ever want to do that intentionally, and I never ever would do that.”

Highsmith, 25, has perhaps the most sterling reputation of any Steelers player. He was the team’s 2022 nominee for the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award, given annually to an NFL player “who best demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition.”

So there's that ...

Highsmith did a common celebration during the heat of the moment. I cringed only because I knew people would make a big deal about it.

Probably didn't even realize he did it until later.

Heck, I didn’t even see it until after the fact. After Derek Watt’s TD, I immediately flipped over to the Jets game. I was confused when I saw why we were trending later on.

Damar Hamlin probably saw that on TV and laughed. Stuff like that is NOT THE END OF THE WORLD, ABSOLUTELY NOT something to protest over or be so damn offended by.

You need to understand, It’s in style to be outraged and step up on that high horse.

Of course it was a poor choice...so what? Real men also don't go into swamps like twitter and lecture others about it via very un masculine virtue signaling either..If Hamlin had a problem with it it was up to him to call these guys out as that is how "real" men handle slights and insults..

ya also have to realize '79 is sitting at home wearing a pair of Zubaz and and old Hills Department Store T-shirt drinking a 16oz can of PBR trying to get you riled up with these kinds of posts...

I never owned Zubaz, at the moment I'm wearing grey cargo sweatpants and an Izod sweatshirt, But I do mean everything I say, I'd personally like society to have the same kind of sensitivity that it had in 1970. Sometimes I do buy a 6 pack of 16oz PBR, there's a store nearby here that has it. Hills? Never! I used to work at Fishers Big Wheel.

Didn't say anything about being offended. Just wasn't the right time or place for something like that. I guess in your mind, real men don't bother with ancient ideas like respect or common sense.

The concept of masculinity has gotten so warped. If you don't think men don't virtue signal, you haven't been paying attention for like hundreds of years.
