OT: Yesterday and Today

One thing my mother did was always, and I mean always, put a can of corn in our pancakes which we had for supper a couple times a month. I must have been about 20-21 years old the first time I ordered pancakes at a restaurant and wondered why there was no corn in the dang things! I figure now that it must of been something they did during the depression to make the pancakes more substantial. I still love pancakes that way but only one of my six siblings does and my wife thinks I am crazy.

My Mom boiled hot dogs. Does that count?
What is it with old.people and boiling meat?

My parents and in-laws hate bbq and despise grilled meats. Hotdogs and sausages were to be boiled, and burger belonged in a fry pan to avoid flame broiling and "that taste". I think that is bizarre.

In-laws also claim to like their steaks medium but send them back until they're well-done. At casino buffets, they take a beautiful piece of prime.rib and ask it to be grilled until it is no.longer pink. Horrifying. They also fear cilantro and "that taste". But somehow could stomach liver and onions.

Mother in law made this peas and cheese thing for Thanksgiving: mushy cooked peas from a can in a Velveeta sauce and thought it was great. I pissed her off to no end when I'd say no thanks or wouldn't finish it. She thought it was the pinnacle of haute cuisine.
