ot: your reaction to the news the pirates are quitting pittsburgh

My reaction is that Pittsburgh would have the best minor league ball park in the world.

It's not happening but if it did?

Major PutuStupidio will work something like this out..

Is this English?

Dear Mr Souf-a,

No it's Portuguese?
The Bucs are going nowhere. Fake news. Like most news.
Just pointing out with the support the team gets they might as well relocate!
Who would even notice.
Bad fans!
Average owner.
But it's the only baseball team Pittsburgh has or is likely to have!

Why would anyone who likes the city of Pittsburgh, root for a major league sports franchise to leave??

Even if u hate baseball or hate nutting but u like the city, it’s still an idiotic stance. We start losing major entities like pirates we’d be Harrisburg without the capitol or Erie without the lake.

Careful what you wish for.

Boycotting the team is the best approach. Attending only rewards Nutting. By not going, and with continuous public harangue, at least there's a chance of aggravating the family, and maybe they're so rich at this point they wont want the bother any longer; or, just maybe, he'll be forced to try being competitive.

It's a long shot, admittedly. But rewarding him DEFINITELY is counter productive.

But anyone attending Pirates games is mentally questionable, at this point, since there's no intent or chance of a championship. Which is the whole point of sports leagues. And if you say "then it's true of Pitt games too," well, I'd find it hard pressed to argue.

It would be great for Pitt. We could choose our own home game times, have 1 less pro team to compete with for fan hearts and minds, and could convert PNC Park into a fabulous college football stadium similar to what Georgia State did to Turner Field but better. Baseball is a dying sport anyway. Please let this happen!

Lol, yeah, pitt football would sell out for sure. No more noon games, 60k plus, chicks and guns and fire trucks and Hookers and drugs and booze all at our tailgates, if it weren’t for those pesky pirates.

you crack me up SMF, whatever you snort up your nose b4 you post this stuff, invite me over cause I’m in bro. You and me together? Forget about it.

No P5 college football teams chose their own home game times. Which one would think that you know by now.
But we get more noon games than any P5 program
And we are not the worst P5 program, not even close.

It’s getting better. Not great but we may be soon getting away from being “noon kickoff U.”

But that doesn't have anything at all to do with where we are playing our games, with very, very few exceptions.

He said game “times.” I thought we were referring to kickoff times.

We are referring to kick off times. With perhaps one or at most two exception each season, we do NOT determine our own kickoff times. We play whenever the television people tell us to play. When the TV people say nooner on the Ocho, we play at noon and the game is on the Ocho. When they say 8:00 on ESPN, we play at 8:00 on ESPN. When they say Thursday, we play on Thursday.

And that makes us exactly the same as every other P5 school.

Anyone that changes anyone’s name to be insulting while hiding behind a username should be subject to public ridicule. Seriously, grow up. And you had to edit that post, who’s the stupid one?

Yes but like I’ve said, we have an incredibly horrible luck with bein the recipient of home noon kick off times. Bad luck, luck of the draw is one thing but it’s worse then that. We’ve had more home noon or 1 pm home kickoffs than any other P5 team in the last 5 years, by far.

At some point, saying “it is what it is” just isn’t enough. People blame us for being avg and mediocre teams get bad tv slots but I’ve pointed out time and again, much worse programs getting much better tv slots.

I rag on baseball with the best of them, but I wouldnt say baseball is dying. MLB is still the 2nd or 3rd richest sports league in the world, even ahead of my beloved EPL. The baseball owners may not like April attendance and think that the speed of play is not attractive for millennials with short attention spans...but MLB isn’t going anywhere. Except maybe in Pittsburgh, where the owner has no passion for bringing winning baseball to the city. If he were smart, and he is, he’d look to move the Pirates. Sad but true.

And as far as following the Pirates if they move...the only thing likable about them is that they are from Pittsburgh. Take that away and they are just another team in a dull sport.

If you take away Pittsburgh’s sports teams, what is the draw as a city?

I know that and you know what I mean. Pitt has to play at 1:00 or earlier until October. If not for the Pirates, some of those games would have started at 3:30 or later.

And to reply to Swervin: of course the Pirates are far down on the list of Pitt problems but it is common sense that the more major pro sports there are in town, the less interest there is in the city's college teams. American men (mostly) LOVE sports but they can only become truly rabid fans of maybe 2 teams. That 3rd or 4th team, they can take or leave and just watch when they have nothing else going on. For Yinzers, it's the Stillers and either the Pens or Pirates. Take the Pirates out of the equation and you have just the Stillers and Pens. That means Pitt would be a Pens downturn away from gaining the hears and minds of Yinzers (if we got good). 3 major pro teams is too much for Pitt to overcome. I am all for the Pirates moving and as I said, we can convert it to a beautiful football stadium which at 40K seats, would greatly help the game day atmosphere and recruiting

Bad fans they have put out a AAA team for 18 of the last 21 years. In the years they had a decent team they drew pretty well.

MLB plays 162 games so yea, they make a ton of money. The sport of baseball with the insane amount of games being played lends itself to always do well financially. Its slow pace and lack of excitement actually also is a selling point for date nights, corporate outings, social events, family nights, etc. If you go to a Pirate game, you will notice that many people are not actually watching the game. And the ones that are really don't care who wins or loses. It's a night out.

Nobody cares about ACC athletics.

Right because we have 3 major pro teams. The more pro teams you take away, the more people get interested in Pitt/ACC. Theoretically, if all 3 major pro teams left, Pitt football and basketball would sell out every game easily

Peduto has plenty of flaws as does city council and the city and county in general.

But the vitriol is simply partisan yammering.
The city has improved tremendously

We know this. Have the family home before 5 pm. You’ve told us this before, a few times.

Sounds like a blast.
Not all of us drink ourselves stupid because we dislike our family.
:)

My frame of reference is what is least disruptive to an almost 7 year old- since he’s at games with us.

Liberals care about family values and aren’t as selfish.

Your 7 year old can be out past 5 pm there mrs soccer mom.

With over protective parenting like this, we wonder why our kids are growing up as helpless adults. SMH.

Cut the chord soufie
