This place needs a little cheering up and this should do it. One of the best plays in the Pitt-Penn State series... Quite a finish to a great game!

Gottfried running down the sideline and jumping onto Billy in the endzone is one of my favorite Pitt football memories. Surrounded by players, coaches, cheerleaders, and spectators; helmets raised and the student section waving their yellow pom-poms. Hard to beat that.

I remember watching as a 10 year old kid on a little TV in my kitchen. I thought for sure we were going to get beat because we let them hang around after Van Horne (i think) missed 2 FGs so we were only up a 3-0. I’ll never forget MG running down the sidelines.

I think he missed at least 2, may have been 3. Huge game by Ironhead.

Greatest Gameday from start to finish was Pitt vs VT at Heinz in 2003.
Haha, it's funny you mention that since I'm watching the game online right now. Went on a marathon today and watched the Texas A&M win in 2003 (or 02, can't remember) the VT upset on the road in 02 and now this one.

Definitely a Top 5 win for Pitt this century.

All time Pitt memorable moment. I wasn't there :(

Was just talking about that 1987 team on another thread because the Catholics vs. Convicts 30 for 30 showed that Pitt - Notre Dame game (Tony Rice's first) and the 1988 one (ND's last national title). It's crazy to me that we beat Notre Dame three straight times heading into that 1988 game, including when they were ranked #4 in 87. I re-watched that 1987 game recently, it was an incredible combination of luck and the fact we had a very, very talented offensive line of PA kids and Ironhead who just wore them down. It was also Genilla's rare shining moment too. The stars aligned. We actually came close to stopping them from winning the national title in 1988 too until a late ND rally.

If Pitt had beaten Notre Dame in '88, it very well may have paved the road for the Hillbillys to remain undefeated and win it all.

I hated to see Notre Dame win another championship, but it would have been unbearable for the Hoopies to win their first.

Things work out for a reason.

Maybe it would have been Miami - WVU for the national title? Not that the Fiesta Bowl would have had to take that match up.

4 of the top 5 teams that year were independents. People thought it might mean the end of the conferences, but the opposite happened.

Was the 88 game vs ND the one Dickerson fumbled out the back of the endzone? OMG that one was painful.

Was in the student section that evening. I still get chills when I see that play, it is by far my fondest memory of Pitt football. Only other moment that can compare to it ,was being in the crowd at Fitgerald when Jerome shattered the backboard, but that did not occur against our most bitter rival, the pedophiles.
