Our win over psu did nothing for recruiting

I guess ford sucks.

He was a Panther before the game. People make the game out like it tips the scale as far as where a recruit goes, but the fact is.....it doesn't. It feels good for the fans who believe it's a huge rivalry and that's about it.

Who cares, he was a great player in high school where his height didn't hurt him, college is a different story, narduzzi is looking for a taller corner wade doesn't fit the bill, it just might take him a while to get onto the field anyway, i believe we already have as good or better cb's already on the Pitt roster

Team ranking of 40 with all the studs from the wpial going elsewhere. Narduzzi needs a stud recruiter on his staff.
Let's quit this 'local studs going elsewhere' bit. We got Paris Ford, who is an absolute stud. We also got Houy, Carrigan and Sear locally. Add on to the locals of the past (Boyd, Whitehead, Hamlin, Wheeler, Pugh, and many others), and your statement doesn't hold water. Pitt didn't get Wade, they won't get them all, but they are replacing locals that leave with Florida studs and Ohio studs for example. Narduzzi will continue to get good recruits and will win with them. Mark it down.

How do you know it did nothing? Have you ever thought maybe we would have an even lower ranked class had we not beat them?

The WPIAL does not produce elite talent anymore. I'll give up a stranglehold on the WPIAL any day of the week to in return get good recruits from all over the country. We saw Pitt get just about everyone outside of Pryor for years....really good teams, but even then a lot of our best players came from elsewhere.

Why would one win totally influence a high school kid as to where he's going to play football for the next 4 years? Doesn't make sense.

Um....ok. Lol.

Obviously the WPIAL still produces talent, especially the last few years, but it's not what it used to be. For Pitt to be successful they need to recruit other areas as well, surely you realize this.

The CBs that got torched all season or the CBs who couldn't beat out the CBs who got torched all season???

Huh?? Beating a 2nd string QB after letting a horrible offense with said QB kick your assesite all first half?

I know what you are saying, but he made the halftime adjustments to score 31 points in the second half to beat a top 5 defense and win the conference championship. I guess you could look at it both ways, but they won the game.

Just end the Franklin talk. He's a good coach and they had a good year. You don't just luck into a major conference championship. Let's wait until Narduzzi wins at least the Coastal (weaker of the divisions) before anointing him a better coach

Exactly. Clearly you can pick a few examples of highly touted kids from the area. But if Pitt were to just recruit everyone from the area and not much else, they would have a hard time competing. It's a significant drop off from when the WPIAL produced as much talent as anywhere else in the country.

Remember in 2004 when Moralli and Pinky went elsewhere and everyone said it was the end because we couldn't land the top prospects in the Wpial in that class.

Well we had Revis and mckillop in that class. I'd take those two over the former.

The point is we won't know until 4 years from now.

I couldn't care less where we recruit from provided we address needs with talented/quality kids. The kids from Florida, etc... are easier to recruit right now as they aren't tainted by negative local perceptions.

Morehead didn't do that?

PSU will get the top players by a majority in PA. Always have and always will. So? What has that led them to? A crap schedule that Franklin benefited from. Iowa, MSU, declined. Perdue, Rutgers, Maryland were really bad. Indiana was OK and gave the nits quite a game. Michigan destroyed them. Pitt beat them. OSU controlled the game until a blocked punt a FG turned the game around. In short Wisconsin was a good win. I will give the nits that. We will see in the Rose bowl if a motivated USC team presents a better reflection of PSU as a team. I guess the selectors for the final four never took the PSU team all that seriously. They won the Big Ten and were still considered behind Michigan and OSU.

Losing Wade is not the be all end all, but the. bigger concern and picture is we only landed one of the top ten WPIAL players in a strong class. PSU unexpectedly having a strong season is what really hurt with Wade, but at the end of the day Wade is the only guy Pitt "lost" to them-Thorpe committed a long time back and was always going there. Now losing Jeter to Michigan, and Lugg, Adams and Hinish to ND really hurt. So at the end of the day, we got one of the top 10 WPIAL players in a loaded year. I think most Pitt fans capable of any degree of objectivity would have to agree, that ain't gonna cut it.
