Division winners get the top 2 seeds, then the next 8 best percentage in ACC games get in. The last 4 must play a play-in game before advancing to the double elimination round.

As of Friday night, here is how they stand with everyone having one league game left.

(using and adjusting Crazy Paco's model below, hope I updated it correctly)
DIVISION WINNERS
1. x-Miami 23-6 (.793) vs UNC
2. xz-FSU 21-8 (.724) vs Duke

THE NEXT FOUR
3. x-UVA 22-7 (.758) @Wake
4. x-Duke 15-14 (.517) @FSU
5. x-UNC 15-14 (.517) @Miami
6. x-Maryland 15-14 (.517) ACC schedule finished

THE LAST FOUR play a play-in game
7. x-Clemson 14-14 (.500) vs BC
8. x-Wake Forest 14-15 (.483) vs UVA
9. x-Ga Tech 14-16 (.467) ACC schedule finished
10. x-NC State 13-16 (.448) @VT

-----------------------------------------------------------

THESE FOUR ARE OFFICIALLY OUT OF THE TOURNEY
11. e-PITT 11-18 (.383) @ ND
12. e-BC 10-19 (.345) @ Clemson
13. e-VT 8-21 (.276) vs NCSU
14. e-ND 8-21 (.276) vs Pitt

z = clinched division title
x = clinched ACC Tournament birth
e = eliminated from ACC Tournament

An epic collapse.

Can't sugar coat it.

And unfortunately, it seems to be a recurring pattern at the end of the year for this program.

One stat to help explain why Pitt missed the tourney

Other than Pitt cannot hit, of course.

Against the 2 Division winners---Pitt went 0-3
Against the next 4 in (double elimination)--Pitt went 5-7
Against the last 4 in (play-in round)--Pitt went 4-2

Against the 3 other teams OUT of the tourney--Pitt went 2-7 !!!!!!!!!!

You gotta beat those teams below you in the standings! We lose too many games mid-week against inferior competition and we lost too many games against weaker ACC teams.

Yeah, it that is just inexcusable. It applies to the mid-week games too. Playing down to their opponents has cost them at least two NCAA bids and now inexcusable bungles to the bottom of the conference have kept it out of the ACC tourney.

At one point in the ACC baseball season, we were 7-5 in conference and had just finished off sweeps of Duke and Ga Tech. We only won 4 of our last 18 conference games

Against the two teams in the ACC with the worst records we are 0-5. Swept by VT after losing the lead in all 3 games. Shutout twice by ND. It doesn't seem to matter which league we are in. Last year a late collapse cost us an NCAA bid. This year, a similar collapse cost us a spot in the ACC tourney. A team that loses 13 of its last 17 conference games doesn't deserve to be in the tourney. When we hit, we can't pitch and when we have good pitching we have no hitting. And we play porous defense all the time. That is not a formula for success.

Maybe finally being fully funded for baseball scholarships will add some of the quality and depth needed to play the schedule without the maddening frustrations against lesser opponents.

There's going to be a big influx of new faces next year. Hopefully that means more talent and better results.

bwh05 ......

Have they announced the signing class that will come in next fall ??? .... if not, when will they ???
