Panthers in Coaches Poll

That’s great news. On a side note; Army at #24? When the last time they were ranked?

Army? 1996

Correct. They were 25 in the final poll of 1996.

It should also be said that they are entirely undeserving of that ranking. They beat Colgate in a close game yesterday. The week before they beat Lafayette. They have one decent win, on the road at Buffalo. They had a "good loss" to Oklahoma. Their next best win is, ah, Eastern Michigan? Hawaii? Duke beat them by three touchdowns.

It just goes to show that you can schedule really easy and eventually get ranked anyway, no matter who you are.

Hopefully Lyke, Narduzzi, and eventually our fans figure this out. Being consistently ranked gets you talked about which eventually makes it easier to recruit. This leads to winning, more/higher rankings, easier recruiting ... continue.

It has to be understood that when you schedule difficult OOC against ND or PSU it’ll put 70k butts in Heinz Field as opposed to 35-40k for a sure win vs. a FCS opponent. It comes down to revenue. Maybe that’s the reason for difficult OOC scheduling?

That's short-term thinking, and it disregards what being consistently ranked would do to our attendance on a week-to-week basis. Plus those easy rankings get us better recruits; I gotta think recruits would rather play for a team that's always top--25 (which means being talked about & playing on TV way more, plus a better bowl game) in front of 50k fans, than for an unranked team in front of 70k 1-2x a year.

With the money they get from the ACC now, that should no longer be an issue.
