He wrote this little blurb in an article calling Virginia a fraud:

"By all means, give proper credit to UMBC, its fearless senior guard Jairus Lyles and its spectacular rising star coach, Ryan Odom. (If you are an AD at a power conference and you have an opening, or an inkling of an opening, hire him. Now."

Oddly, Forde says this later in the column, sorta contradicting his praise of Odom:

"This wasn’t losing to Tom Izzo or Jim Boeheim, Hall of Fame coaches with national titles on their résumés. This was folding against a nobody."

Ryan Odom is yesterday’s Nate Oats. Tune in tomorrow for the flavor of the day!
Two days ago it was Matta or Hurley. Now we’ve added Oates, Musselman and Odom. Just shows how there are multiple good choices for this job. Hope we get the right one is all I say.

Odom could be very interesting if he has developed good relationships in the region he is coaching, there is a lot of basketball talent around Baltimore and DC. He is certainly the flavor of the day, but a good story with a good recruiting area and a good pedigree is certainly interesting.

I’m going to guess when Albany beat them by 45 less than 2 months ago Odom wasn’t exactly on anyone’s radar.

They had a nice season and got hot at the end. Beating Vermont on the road just to get in was really impressive. Doesn’t mean the coach should be able to parlay that into an ACC head gig.

He is Dave Odom's son. He knows the ACC inside and out.

Ryan might not be ready for an ACC job now, but he will be within a couple of years. As Pitt is likely going to have 2 years of total rebuild, if the AD really likes Odom, he is worth the risk.
