What I dont understand is why the visiting team gets to bring their refs.
Because it used to be that the home team supplied the refs, and shenanigans predictably ensued.
If there was some sort of national officiating office maybe they could do what you suggest. There is not.
Brown complained about the refs also. He just started his complaints saying the opposite of what he was about to complain about. So apparently that cancels out the complaint.Well worth the money to get it out there on national TV. Narduzzi knew what the result would be with the fine and reprimand.
Pitt was penalized 12 times for 112 yards. Neal Brown can STFU. He likely just cost himself his job this year.

The guy who wrote this is so mad, lol
Sunday Morning Thoughts: Neal Brown, Welcome Back to the Hot Seat
In 2023, West Virginia head coach Neal Brown coached his way off of the hot seat with a nine-win campaign. It seemed as if the Mountaineers were finally turningwww.si.com

I think it serves two purposes. Obviously wasn't a well called game but knowing you had double the penalties and yardage and still pull off the win, you want celebrate it and rub some salt in the other teams wounds. Duzz won't exactly be eating chipped ham sammiches this week to get by so I'm sure he's pleased with himself.Well worth the money to get it out there on national TV. It is one thing to complain about the refs missing a call, coaches do that often. Pat, on the other hand, essentially said that the refs were favoring WVU, when he said thatPitt had to defeat them as well. That is a dumb comment to make.Brown complained about the refs also. He just started his complaints saying the opposite of what he was about to complain about. So apparently that cancels out the complaint.
It should be like college basketball in that officials are outsourced and they dont work for a conference.
Disagree. One thing about HCPN is that he wears his emotions on his sleeve. He is not a phony, like so many others. He has his players’ back.It is one thing to complain about the refs missing a call, coaches do that often. Not the smartest thing to say, but a lot of emotion at the time has his player's back. Eli was pissed about having to come out of the game after getting his helmet ripped off.It is one thing to complain about the refs missing a call, coaches do that often. Almost as bad as the officials were the announcers. They ignorantly glared over so many critical calls / missed calls.Disagree. One thing about HCPN is that he wears his emotions on his sleeve. He is not a phony, like so many others. He has his players’ back.
Neal Brown (rhymes with 🤡) was thrilled that PN made those comments. Because it gave him a diversion to deflect things away from BLOWING a 10 point lead in the last 3 minutes.
But when officials IGNORE things like this, they deserve to be called out. This CLEAR negligence gave the hoopies a 10 point lead in the 4Q. As a LONG TIME Pitt fan and donor, I support PN for doing what he did.
I was at the game. Didn’t hear the announcers. I have it recorded and will watch it when I have a chance this week.Almost as bad as the officials were the announcers. They ignorantly glared over so many critical calls / missed calls.

I honestly don't know what the issue was with the late hit out of bounds. He was clearly well out of bounds when George hit him. The missed call on the offensive face mask was bad, though.
However, the defensive holding call on like 3rd and 15 was huge and really bailed us out (I believe it led to 7). I didn't even see who it was on to know if it was a good call or not. Similarly, the holding call that brought back their touchdown was also massive. I honestly didn't see a flag on the field until well after the play. Not sure if it was late or I just missed it. Holding continues to be one of the most arbitrary calls in all of sports. And I did think Battle got away with a DPI earlier in the game.
Bottom line, I thought both sides probably had a pretty legit gripe with the officiating.
How does calling out the officials after a game that you won “have his players back?” Are they going to go back and change some calls? Pitt will not see those officials again this year, and probably never in the future.
Yes. Extremely blatant one.Was there a facemask on Holstein's scramble that was missed? I missed the replay, was having too much fun with the eer fan behind me.
Yeah, I couldn't tell for certain from my angle, thought so, but sometimes you see a player twist in a similar way when someone grabs the inside of the shoulder pad from the front.Yes. Extremely blatant one.
Not true. Are you an official? I am. Coaches say things every game. If you’re that thin skinned, you’re not a good official.Officials stick together. Look for Pitt to be targeted by ACC officials even more than they normally are the rest of the season

The issue wasn't whether he was out of bounds -- he clearly was -- but whether George "hit" the player. George was pulling up and barely made contact. Regardless, that call wasn't as consequential as the others that you mention. I'd also like to see a replay of the holding call that negated the WVU touchdown. That was a huge swing, and I simply don't know whether it was right because the action was downfield. I hope it was. The missed OPI call was egregious. Nobody can legitimately excuse that one.I honestly don't know what the issue was with the late hit out of bounds. He was clearly well out of bounds when George hit him. Yeah, no.
I find this statement true in most all professions in which your judgement can be questioned. The point is though... If you're not a good official do you get fired or are you still out there every Saturday? Give me all the "Officials are evaluated every game, blah, blah ,blah" statements you like.......so what, they are evaluated by their own thin-skinned superiors most likely....and still officiate in my limited experiences...If you’re that thin skinned, you’re not a good official.
As if every and all other HCs aren't critical of officiating and don't get fined on occasion. Maybe that's why it's so bad across the board I guess? We can revisit this in two months and see who was right

Yes. Coaches do this stuff. Lotta coaches get fined in their careers for criticizing officiating. Not ideal but it happens.Accused officials on national television of intentionally cheating for the opposing team?

Officials operate in a shroud of secrecy to some extent. It's like taboo to bring light to a problem official. Downgrades happen, just not publicly. Plus, there aren't full 8 man crews waiting in the wings to replace a demoted crew. It's tough. The crew saturday did a poor job no doubt.I find this statement true in most all professions in which your judgement can be questioned. The point is though...
