Pat Narduzzi

Just started following Charlie Partridge on twitter right before he started to follow Watson.

Extend his contract with a nice raise and buyout now. Up his recruiting budget and assistant salaries. The man is the real deal.

This is a nice thought and I wouldn't be against it, but Pitt had to approach the big hitters to get the $1 mil to offer Canada. It's not like they have a surplus budget just sitting around to give raises. They need to be earned and Pat is close, but not there yet.

Your opinion means nothing to real PITT fans
Why not?
While he may be a bit over the top, SVPanther is largely correct on this.
Narduzzi has had two good seasons. Good, but not yet great. Not particularly wise to break the bank on him at this point, especially for a financially challenged school like Pitt that can't afford to whiff.

8-5 in two seasons, two minor bowl losses, no top 25 finishes and hasn't cracked top 30 in recruiting. Yep! Back up the Brinks! That's nuts, IMO.
That was pretty much the peak of our previous coaches. Narduzzi has already done in his first two years with most players not being who he actually recruited. If he even improves at the level Walt or wanny did we are on the right track and then some.

PN's original contract was for 5 years and in December of 2015, after his 1st regular season of coaching at Pitt, Barnes extended his contract for 2 years ...... therefore, he has 5 years left now on his contract ...... Barring any unusual circumstances, I suspect that Pitt will extend PN's contract after next season, sometime after the regular season and prior to LOI Day 2018 but who knows what a new AD will do ...... I'm sure that assistants pay and recruiting budget will also be addressed.

I agree that Duzz is a very good head coach. But Jackie wasn't the game day coach, he was an excellent recruiter finding hidden talent like Rooster Jones in the back woods of Mississippipi and the talent on those 3 teams that went 11-1.
Johnny Majors was the great game day coach as witnessed by moving Tony D to fullback to start the second half of the PSU game which resulted in a national championship.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I agree with SVP (at least partially). We haven't cracked the top 25 so that's simply factually correct. We have lost the last two bowls games, so can't argue with this. I do think that given multiple years of 6 wins seasons preceding him, 8 wins by Narduzzi is pretty good and directionally correct.

So, while I think Narduzzi is moving us in the right direction, he hasn't done enough to merit another extension and raise. Besides, giving Narduzzi a raise at this point really accomplishes nothing. If he goes on to 9 and 10 win seasons and one of the big programs comes calling with a $5-$6M offer the fact that he's under a multi-year contract that was just extended doesn't mean crap. So, what's the benefit to Pitt of a raise and extension at this time? Not much as far as I can tell.

Cruzer

Agree with this. I think the only potential benefit would be to up his buyout.

Two 8-5 as his first two years which is the best start since who.... Sherill???? They finished #23 also....oh and two seasons of selling out bowl allotments in a time where bowl games and regular season sales are down.... also set regular season tix sales....

Way to have your shit straight
