He wants traded. I am not a cap expert, so I am just tossing this out there. Is there a way we could trade Bell to whomever for a 3rd Round Pick to get him off the books and then go after Peterson with the cap space Bell was going to use? Ideally we would trade Bell to the Cards and we’d get Peterson.

Can't trade Bell until he signs, and all signs point to him not signing his tender until after the trade deadline passes

At that point, the Steelers could rescind his offer, which would leave him without a contract. He could then sign with anyone, but who would want a guy who had not even practiced for almost a year and expects to be paid top dollar?

I'd give up a first for Peterson. I'd consider giving up a first and a fourth for him. Instant impact player who could help transform a defense. Look at the impact Haden made for the Steelers defense. Peterson would do that and more.

There were rumors of Bell to the Eagles for a 2nd. Then taking that 2nd round pick, packaging it with the Steelers 2nd to go to the Cardinals for Peterson. So pretty much 2 second round picks for Peterson.

Steelers have enough room for Peterson as it stands today without having to move Bell. I’d easily give up a 1st + Burns for Peterson.

Why would Burns sweeten any deal?

The Steelers are not going to rescind his offer leaving him to sign anywhere he wants. Like New England.

According to one of the guys on the fan (so who knows if it is right), with the money already saved by not paying Bell, they have enough room under the cap to trade for Peterson without doing anything with Bell.

The Steelers have about a 2-3 year window. Go get Peterson now. Their pick will be at the end of the 1st round anyways if things go as planned.

I would give them a first and a third, but not sure that is enough to get it done.

With any trade, put yourself on the other side and think about what you would want. He's a former #5 pick in the draft, 3 time all pro who is signed at a reasonable salary through 2021. The Steelers first and third probably isn't enough.

I doubt a 1st and a 3rd would be enough to get a deal done, as you would pretty much just be giving up a 1st, and swapping 3rd round picks from this year to 2 years from now as if you let Patrick Peterson walk as a free agent you are probably looking at a 3rd round compensatory pick 2 years down the line.

I would do the deal for a first and third but not much more. The Steelers will get the third pick back after Bell leaves. Peterson is signed thru 2020 and his numbers would fit under the cap because of the money the Steelers haven't had to pay Bell. Also the money Peterson is due the next two years is less than we would have had to pay Bell if he had signed his tender. Having a proven player for 2 seasons and a half more than makes up for the gamble that is a first round draft pick. for every DeCastro, Pouncey and Polamalu you have a Jarvis Jones, Artie Burns or a Bud DuPree. I am a firm believer in sticking with the draft but once in a while a trade makes sense. Didn't the Steelers give up their number 1 for the Bus? Worked out pretty well I'd say.

Of course the Cards say they aren't going to trade him so this all may be a moot point.

I would trade a #1 plus a lower level draft pick for Peterson in a heartbeat. That would allow the Steelers to be one of the favorites to win the SB.

Just like coach Tomlin said no time to deal in hypotheticals.
The stupid sports media the fan spent hours ripping the Steelers.
They are like a lot of people on this board make things up to prove there point
