Lack of institutional control seems appropriate given that these problems have occurred during several different coaching tenures throughout the years.
To me, the funniest thing about Memphis is after they won the first round and were facing Gonzaga so many sportswriters on twitter were bragging him up and the job he is doing, blah, blah, blah. I guarantee you these same writers will be identifying the infractions and talking about the problems with Memphis and Penny.

The Memphis crime syndicate finally gets what was coming.
The Penny thing was never going to work long term for either side. He was brought in to chase a title with the Team Penny kids and build enough hype behind the program that it positioned them to get the P5 invite that they desperately want. Neither happened and now they’re going to have to fire the biggest alum they have in their history and the stain will keep them out of any P5/6 conversations for the immediate future.
Now that Memphis and LSU have gotten hammered, I sure hope Louisville is next.
