We were late to making a Masters thread the last time around so I wanted to get this one going earlier. I know it’s only one day but this leaderboard is a big yikes. Rooting for the underdog is fun in teams sports, but I want the stars at the top in individual sports.

the big boys are still lurking. Quail will dry up this weekend and those names will start falling off. overreaction on day 1 ..

Here are some previous PGA Champions,

YE Yang
Jason Dufner
Shaun Micheel
Jimmy Walker
Mark Brooks
Jeff Sluman
Rich Beem

There was like a string of 15 years that unless Tiger won, it was like some 1st (and last) time no name. Remember Tiger saved us from Bob May on this list.

PGA Championship really is the red headed step child of majors. Underwhelming course, underwhelming leaderboard. Thank god they moved it up in the calendar so we don't end the season with this anymore.
yeah it is. i like so many more non-majors over the pga.. the players, waste management (phx open), the memorial, even the genesis is usually more entertaining than the pga..

im finally getting old enough to finally respect the british open, uh i mean "the open." but it took awhile.

You think Quail Hallow is an "underwhelming course"?

I live in the Charlotte area and am absolutely dying to get the opportunity to play it even once in my lifetime. I've never heard a bad word about it from pros, commentators or any laymen that has been lucky enough to have played it. Can't say that I've met a member since it's uber prestigious.

The last three holes are so treacherous and highly entertaining. This will come down to the 18th on Sunday.

No one is saying that it is a bad golf course, or that we as mere mortals wouldn't love to play on it.

What we're saying is that compared to so many venues that majors are typically played at, this one isn't anything special. It's not a classic course by any definition. And if you are being honest, that particular point of view was discussed in the golf media quite a bit over the last week or so.

Bingo. The course is pretty and well kept despite all the “mud ball” controversies during round 1. It’s just not special or unique. There are 20 other courses the tour plays on that looks just like this. No memorable features, no iconic holes, etc.

On another note, Wan Stash pretty much nailed the big boys showing up once conditions became more favorable.

The commentators keep talking it up because a lot of them are members there…..don’t play majors on courses that host normal PGA events.

Did Rory’s car screech out of the parking lot again after another pedestrian round and seeing some of the names ahead of him on the leaderboard? I know he’s the most morally righteous guy in golf because he didn’t take Saudi money (despite his fortune built on slave labor) but I was expecting more.

Ok, I'll bite...what slave labor?
