can anybody close to the team give us a preseason summary of the team? Is the group of freshmen that came in strong? Is the team young or are they experienced? Will we be better than last year?

Thanks - that is a good review. I just wonder if Panther baseball can ever be that good given the season is starting and our guys are probably practicing indoors versus the most schools from Virginia on south practicing outside. I know a friend's son here in Pgh who had scholarship offers from Pitt and PSU chose Coastal simply due to the weather and the ability to train all year. The goal of these kids is to get drafted their junior year so practice is very important.

Here’s a pretty good ACC preview. It has Pitt 13th out of 14 (only Notre Dame is lower).

Bottom Line from the article--Good returning offense on the team but lost top two pitchers from last year. Incoming pitching is of unknown quality. If the incoming pitching turns out to be good the team can do better than predicted. If not, the 13th out of 14 prediction will hold.

Anyone who follows Pitt baseball know anything about the pitchers recruited?

Cold-weather teams can be successful (see UVa, Oregon State, Louisville) but its much harder to attract the talent needed. Unless Pitt HEAVILY invests in baseball, I dont see any path for them in the ACC.

Pitt decided to invest in soccer instead.

I guess they are with the coaches, but right now looks like volleyball the only Olympic sport with a pulse. Nearly every other including now wrestling and gymnastics clearly in second half of league.

I consider myself someone who follows the program closely. If you need anymore proof of success in the north look to Boston College being 1 out away (@Miami in the super regional in 2016) going to the college world series..ND has made some regionals too. Are there some added difficulties, yes.

As far as incoming pitchers Pitt's opening day weekend rotation will go (4 games instead of 3):
-RS Senior
-RS SO
-SO--started as a freshman
-RS JR

They have experience this year and their top arms out of the bullpen all have 1+ years of experience. Like always it will come down to coaching in this conference. 12 out of 14 teams make the conference tourney so it should be almost impossible for them to miss the cut for a 5th year straight (but they have given no reason to prove otherwise). We are still the only ACC team not to make the tourney in the last 4 years.

Here’s some information from a player on the team about what to expect:

“Should be a good season. We have a solid offensive team this year and if we execute pitches our pitching staff will be good also.

The class that just came in this year is really solid though. And our infield this year defensively should be one of the best in the ACC”

I asked about Yaya pitching and he commented this:

“He was Freshman all ACC as a pitcher 2 years ago. Didn’t pitch much last year because we needed him more in the outfield. This year though he’s a pitcher only and pinch runner”

I don’t think any of this is breaking news but again perspective from a player. Looking forward to Saturday and seeing them play.
