with his record as coach they would get obliterated in the media for doing so. Dixon will have to be encouraged to resign/quit, that is the only way.

Maybe he'll decide to take another job on his own.

I don't necessarily want him gone..... but I definitely want an explanation for what the hell he was thinking tonight. It makes no sense.

No they cannot afford to fire him. However, that doesn't mean that the program has not gone stale.

I've been saying this on here all year. The buyout is too steep, do some of these posters understand? I'm not satisfied at all with the performance but it can get a lot worse fellas. JD has at least 2 more years at best so go and do some charity work to ease your frustration.

He would need to be hired by someone else first, but there are a lot of coaches that we could land that would produce the same results or better than what he has done the last 6 years.

Who would pay the buyout for a team that just scored 44 or whatever?

Idk, I hope PITT can solve this and keep JD and bring in a full time recruiter.

How do you know this? You sure? Name some coaches.....plz

What media? I'm not saying fire him, but the media reaction is inconsequential, especially the local media. More importantly is what's best for the program.

We should waive the damn buyout.

It wouldn't surprise me if he got some serious interest from someone that they'd quietly let him know that the buyout could be worked around.

On the other hand, it would surprise me right now if he got serious interest from somewhere that he'd seriously consider.

Of course Pitt cant and shouldnt fire Dixon but if TCU or someone else wants to pay his buyout and you are SURE you can do better as in you have somebody lined up, you have to let him walk. Dixon needs a scenery change. Sean Miller does too. Hmmmm.

OH no, you had to ask. Buckle in baby, the list is at least 15 guys by now. ;)
Yeah and how do we know they will be successful here? It's a tough situation and hopefully PITT can reach a happy medium about this.

Miller needs a change of shirt more than a change of scenery.

We are talking about the same results or better over the last 6 years. Will Wade, Brad Underwood, Andy Enfield, Joe Dooley, Bobby Hurley, Wayne Tinkle, Ben Jacobson, Bryce Drew, and Archie Miller could do just as good or better here.

Your last paragraph is absolutely correct. Any smart AD who has watched Dixon's entire body of work and seen the decline in his teams' play the last 5 years wouldn't touch him with a 50 foot pole.

You sure about that? Sorry but JD is going to get 2 more years, the buyout is way too steep.

And that's why other schools keep reaching out to him? Del I know we are pissed off but it's just a tough situation.

It might prove difficult in trying to lure another good coach to come here, if Pitt looks like they are treating someone with a record as good as his like garbage

Pierre, Jamie's market value peaked about 5 years into his gig. He really pressed his luck in leveraging his flirtation with USC into a 5 year extension when: he was in the midst of a downturn ; he was essentially using an opportunity with a school which is a hoops coaching graveyard as leverage. A savvy AD may have extended him 2? years buy NEVER 5 - but in Pedersen and Nordenberg, Dixon was dealing with two insecure idiots and they caved. I guarantee you that no savvy AD at a big name school will be chasing him now , if the unexpected happens(see Walt Harris' move to Stanford), sorry to say that it would be a blessing for Pitt. I've been on the fence regarding Dixon but tonight broke the camel's back. This was equivalent to Wanny's loss to Cinci. I don't see him ever recovering from this in the eyes of Pitt fans. His decision making tonight was just beyond crazy....indefensible.

Agree but the buyout is beyond ridiculous. Idk....

How is it a certainty that they couldn't?

I find these threads where people ask for names - when they know it's ALL in a vacuum - to be hilarious.

Jamie Dixon was a budget hire in 2003 that worked out for a while, very well. He may yet again work out very well. But if he left tomorrow for another job on his own do you really think Pitt would have ZERO chance of hiring a coach that could win basketball games?

Jesus.

Can I respectfully request that you PLEASE stop bringing up old threads that wanted Dixon gone?

I don't know what positive purpose this could possibly serve.

this kid didn't live through the JD era.. that's the problem. He saw it as a young kid and not as an adult. Can't really blame him for not knowing better.

He also needs to understand that all competitive sports are "what have you done for me recently". JD had some insanely good teams and built an amazing program. Can't thank that guy enough. Love that guy for everything he did. A genuine human being and a fantastic basketball coach.. that doesn't mean it wasn't time for a new direction though. Both can be true.

Immature minds fail to realize this. Best to block him and be done with it.

Lol. What a joke.

Still justifying and excusing why pushing out Dixon was correct.

Both can be true. You know what else is true. Dixon hasn't been our coach for coming up on six seasons.

Maybe we should have all rallied around Dixon and the administration to request he stay. Maybe had we done that, we would be ranked #1 right now. Or maybe Dixon would have driven the truck all the way down to Division II. We'll never know. And it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever right now. None.
