Great to see the Coaches are looking how much better the Defense has to become to be more effective this year, and was lucky last year. This is a big work in progress and needs new speedy talent, size, and will have to come together with little time to be ready for Villanova, Penn State, OKSU, UNC, Marshall, and Georgia Tech. The Offense will have to carry most of the burden early on if Pitt is expected to be 3-3 or better. Whether the Defense will have the speed and muscle to contain PSU, OKSU, UNC, and Georgia Tech Run and Option Offense Running will be a challenge early on for the Defense. Any thoughts appreciated!
Excerpt:
In many ways, Pitt's defense overachieved — the Panthers were 6-1 at one time — but Conklin is displeased with other aspects. Including run defense. “If you take away the Navy game (417 rushing yards allowed), we were top 25,” he said. Pitt finished 40th, a standing dragged down by the 793 rushing yards surrendered to the option offenses of Navy and Georgia Tech. Navy is off the schedule, but ACC Coastal Division rival Georgia Tech shows up every year. Something needs to be done. “We can do a lot better job in terms of defending the option,” Conklin said. That's only the beginning.
