It took Vidovich only 2 seasons but he has gotten a Pitt player drafted. Pol Planellas was taken 24th overall by expansion side LAFC. Ironically, they took anothet player from the Iberian peninsula and Rust Belt with Portuguese defender Joao Moutinho who played at Akron.

Watching the Pitt/Akron game on ESPN3, the announcers talked about how Pitt/Akron could develop into a big rivalry and be good for college soccer so its neat to see these guys become LAFC's first 2 draft picks.

Planellas has a good chance to make the squad. But its tougher as an international player as only 8 are allowed per team.

LAFC's marquee player is Carlos Vela but they may also sign fellow Mexican legend Chicharito but his asking price of $10 million per season is probably too much.

My guess is that in a few years, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi wind down their careers with LAFC and the Galaxy.

To pick a nit, Planellas wasn't one of LAFC's first two draft picks, he was their third draft pick. They made a trade with DC before the draft to get the number three overall pick which they used on a defender from Pacific. So when they picked Planellas with the first pick of the second round he was their third overall pick, not second.

Ronaldo will go wherever the money is, but there is no chance Messi will ever play in the MLS. He has stated on hundreds of occasions, that if he doesn’t retire at Barcelona, he will go back to his hometown in Argentina and play one season for his hometown team, Newell’s Old Boys.

Money doesn’t mean that much to him, and he already has more than he could spend in two lifetimes. His home in Castefells, outside of Barcelona but close to where Barca trains, is very nice but by no means ostentatious. His wife had been his girlfriend since both were 12 years old. He never has been a partier like Neymar, for example, and occasionally plays in pickup games with neighborhood kids, where he plays Goalie.
