Mrs Buffett just received a fund raising request from Colorado State University from the Office of Gift Planning. She gets this every quarter.

It is a nicely done laminated two part card that with the following check the box information:

1- I would like a copy of Make The Most of Your Retirement Assets
It's a Colorado St booklet about retirement planning with a 30 second survey that is requested to be returned to CSU Office of Gift Planning.

2- I've included CSU in my estate plan ( and haven't previously notified you)

3- I would consider including a gift to CSU in my will or other estate plan

The literature mentions that the gift is tax deductible, you must be 70.5 yrs old at the time of the gift the gift will satisfy your IRA minimum distribution, and you can transfer up to $100k to a qualified charitable organization tax free from your IRA.

I called CSU to ask some questions and in their words they get a lot of contributions this way that's why they communicate this quarterly via letter, mailer, and in the quarterly magazine.

Neither of us graduated from PITT ( our kids did), does PITT actively / regularly send out information and requests like this?

"it's five o'clock somewhere"

GO PITT & CSU Rams!

Pitt has a special fund for testamentary gifts toward an on-campus stadium. It allows fans to ensure that if one is ever built, it won't be in their lifetime. It is the perfect estate planning vehicle for Pitt fans, who can take that kick-to-the-nuts feeling with them to the grave for all eternity.

This is a pretty standard practice for college and university fundraising.
