Pitt Gets Leggett!

To be fair he's taken himself out of town everywhere he's been.

If it ends up being Dior at the PG I don't know how to compare his 3FG to Nelly.
Leggett vs Burton: similar percentages but Leggett shoots a higher volume.
The four and five should be the same with Hinson and Fede. That leaves the three as you mention.

Elliott was such a niche find in the portal as we had the assistant coach connection. I don't know who you could find in the portal to come off the bench. Hard to know the market for these portal guys and who can offer them a starting spot.

For example the 2/3 shooter market is: Cormac Ryan (ND), Simas Lukosius (Butler), Dawson Baker (UC Irvine), Ryan Langborg (Princeton), Charles Pride (Bryant), Max Shulga (Utah State), Chico Carter (South Carolina), Joe French (Bethune-Cookman), Evan Taylor (Lehigh), Le'Tre Darthard (Utah Valley), Ja'Monta Black (NW State) and Xander Rice (Bucknell).

I'm sure there are a few more, but I stopped going down the portal rankings at that point.

Now filter that group for who can shoot at this level, won't be a turn-style on defense and depending on who they vision starting at the wing be willing to come off the bench.
The one name I see in Instagram follows is interesting but his dad coaches at Tennessee. There's no known Pitt contact but two pitt coaches follow him. And if Tennessee wants him, he's there.
Jordan Gainey...... shot 49% from 3 as a freshman.

Looks like his dad is from NC and was actually on Jason’s staff for four years at App State. That’s probably where Jason knows the son from.

He did play at South Kent, though, presumably when Gilbert Brown was there.

Edit: dad also had two stints at Marquette, which explains the Presutti connection.

Oh good Sleuthing

The arrest was early in his tenure here. But yes, let’s dwell on the past
I just don't understand why some so called Pitt fans keep wanting Dior to fail, leave etc. The way I see it if Dior is a successful then Pitt will be successful. Some here still want Capel to fail due to their hidden agendas. H2P!!

I'll only speak for myself and I am not wanting him to fail.
I'm pointing out there have been multiple fed flags with him and it's risky to turn over the offense from four senior guards last year to Leggett plus freshman this year. They need another guard transfer and preferable a PG.

Yes red flags but a great talent that we need this upcoming season. Dior from what I've heard was unstoppable in practice which made our team much better.

Hope you don't take that attitude with the young fellas that might be courting your daughters..."But Daddy he was arrested way back 6 months ago. Very early in our relationship"..."That's fine Honey, I'm not one to dwell on the past"

Apparently, it appears the coaching staff doesn't share those views.

From a purely logical and practical standpoint what you propose -- bringing in a transfer PG from the portal-- won't happen unless Dior leaves. What PG in his right mind would want to transfer in with Dior and Jaland Lowe already here? Then, even if you could find one to come he would likely be a downgrade and would actually likely trigger Dior to leave.

There are two ships still open. Needs that remain are (1) for a 3-ball shooter to take over Greg Elliot's role and (2) if they can find one, a big guy with muscle who can rebound defensively well enough as an insurance policy against Fede getting injured and to spell Fede -- especially if the twins do not get stronger and heavier.

Yes, let's just forget history. Let's make sure everything is convenient for our narratives and revise history if we must to suit our narrative. Ridiculous!

We played 4 guards last season. They were all extremely experienced. They all saw a lot of time.

I for one do not want to go from 4 very experienced guards to just 1. In our situation we need experienced insurance.

One of Dior, Lowe or Carrington will have to play less than they desire. If Dior is a good citizen,my guess is it is Carrington,although...

there is talk of Carrington as a point forward. perhaps he gets the time behind Austin.

15 minutes on a tournament team as a freshman is nothing to sneeze at.

So I assume you guys who continue to trash Dior are in the camp that Pitt should never have signed him?

Everybody wants experienced guards, and I do to. That said, I want to see plenty of Carrington and Lowe. These kids are rated well and can play. They can be high end players by the time they are sophomores if we give them solid minutes as freshman. Carrington just might be the best replacement for Elliot. He has a nice shot and the height to get it off over smaller defenders.

Personally I want him to
succeed here at Pitt, but
wondering how it all is
gonna turn out is not IMO
"trashing Dior." I think a
lot of Pitt fans feel the
same way.

I agree. No one is trashing Johnson. Just stating facts about his past and tendencies and unsure about if he'll even be here or, if he is, for how long or to what extent he contributes meaningfully. We can only go by his history and extrapolate that to the present. That's where the unsure part comes in.

Point Forward? May depend on how tall Carrington actually is. He is either 6-3 or 6-4 or even 6-6 depending on what is the source of the info.

Reminds me of the fall of the Roman Empire in the 4th and 5th centuries. Their legions were manned almost exclusively by non Roman mercenaries who had no stake in staving off the barbarians...some day this will be the fate of college athletics..

Are you Beano Cook's son? 😂
