Pitt has a QB!!

And that’s the most important takeaway from this game (and season). Similar to Whipple with Pickett, we now have a QB we can build an entire offense around for the next two seasons, starting with a new offensive coordinator after this season’s over.
If Veilleux plays well enough to be that guy going into next year, they aren't going to make a change at coordinator.

I assume Phil stuck around assuming CV would fail and he’d get his job back. Given Saturdays outcome, does he leave the team? Yesterdays result clearly shows he was the problem. It’s gotta be hard staying around watching your understudy flourish

Also, Pitt fans were right. They booed PJ knowing he was horrible and needed to be benched. They knew all three qbs couldn’t be that bad. The switch is made and a huge win right out the gate. Pretty astute evaluators of talent. We knew pj had to be benched and it wasn’t even close. When you throw a 2-yard pass consistently at your receivers feet, you have no business seeing the field.

I will reserve my judgement on CV. I saw some good things from him. But he completed less than 50% of his passes. And the offense prior to the 4th down touchdown went 3 and out I think 4 straight times.
I agree with you. On an optimistic side consider the nerves etc and after the 0-5 start he was 11-19 (I think?) for 200 and 2 tds in the rain.

I also agree on waiting and see what else CV can do. He has a nice arm for sure, but he needs to control his passes more. I'd still like to see our TE involved more. Now that he can settle down after his first start, good things can continue going forward

I'm not sure why everybody is nitpicking CV this morning. Everybody wanted a QB change, and they got it. Everybody wanted a win, and they got it. Over the #14 team, yet. Every positive thing written here about CV this morning has been followed with a "but,". Give him more time. He's only been practicing with the ones for a few weeks, and the kid has barely played in 4 years. I like what I see, given all of that.

I like CV. I like Yarnell. I think we can win at the level we have (8 wins) with them.

I do not like Dieffenbeck and Duggers behind them.

I would like to strive for better.

I think we bring in two transfer QBs.

Agree. I think we found a source of hope, but I'm not ready to start proclaiming we found our guy for sure.

What I did like is that he was fitting some first reads into extremely tight windows. Other guys were wide open on some of those plays. As he develops, I assume he'll get better at finding the open guys. Bub and Konate made some nice contested catches, and Kenny made a nice adjustment on a ball that was not meant to be back shoulder (he had his guy beat over the top). So there were some good things, and there is a good bit of room for improvement that comes with experience.

But we did find a qb better than PJ that gives us a chance to win. Hell, he just upset a ranked and undefeated team. He’s better than what we had and some posters on here defended as our best and only hope (smf, et al).

Well there were some drops early on - both teams. Percentage a bit lower but offset with some nice catches. Is this an asterisk game with their stud RB not playing? I don’t necessarily think the game plays out the same with #25 carrying the load. Would affect Pitt’s offense as well. But there’s hope. Young OL. Need stud RB however.

I’d hope they would like they did with Shawn Watson after 2018 even though we made the ACC Championship. But yeah, I wouldn’t be a huge fan of that development…

Yep, and I don’t see anyone saying he was or is going to be All American KP Sr year. He’s better than what we had, that’s easy to be better than lol. But there were several positive things after a real shaky 0-5 start.

He was working with a patchwork OL and helped them out with his ability to get rid of the ball quickly. The kid has the arm to make all the throws. We can go downfield with him. I think a few times guys were surprised the ball got on them so quick leading to possible missed completions. It’s like they were still used to Phil, his candy arm and slow decision making.

One game is early to judge anyone. BUT he made some nice plays to help beat the 14th ranked team. That should give Pitt fans hope and something to look forward to in what has been a crap season.

This. Exactly this.

CV is a work in progress. It's obvious he has potential, but he's really green. Last night's performance isn't going to win many games.

It certainly helped that Louisville played an absolute garbage game last night.

duggers is still in high school and the soonest he'd be called upon to qb pitt would be 2026, which is a world away.

i wouldnt worry to much about him being qb, we'll have a million things to worry about before 2026.

this staff will hit the qb portal looking for 2024's starting qb. this is what they do, this is how they handle it.

sadly, this isnt a good thing. worst case, we keep cignetti for another year and rely on this ass-clown to find another Jurkovec. best case, we find a new OC who brings his own guy with him.

No way they feel comfortable going into '24 with the psu kid and yarney..

I think a lot of that depends on how the rest of this season plays out.

Tbh, Duzz & Whipple, especially Duzz, is more responsible for the dire QB situation this year than Cigs. CV is really the first QB Cigs has had a chance to develop. Jurk was never any more than a bridge solution because Slovis wasn't sticking around.
