Dominic Giordano won the 3 meter NCAA diving championship. He was also named Diver of the Meet for the NCAA Championship (and garnered All-American status on the 1 meter). Julian Krug, who has coached divers at Pitt for 37 years, was name Diving Coach of the Meet.

This is the first National Champion in school history for men's swimming & diving.

This is the first individual national championship in a Pitt varsity sport since Keith Gavin's 2008 wrestling title at 174lbs.

I believe Pitt's last national champion in swimming & diving was Kathy Setler in the 50-yard butterfly in 1978 (this was before the NCAA sponsored championships for women and women's athletics was overseen by the AIAW).

I'll add that Pitt finished tied for 22nd in the team standings. This is the best team finish for Pitt since 1954, and the first time they've finished in the top 25 since 2002.

This is also the first year both the men's and women's (tied for 42nd) teams have scored points at NCAAs in the same season since 2003.

Hey Paco,

I need a jpeg of Frankie Gustine's for the grandkids. Just to show them that Poppa was a "hero" buying 50 cent (anyone else notice the cent sign is missing?) draughts with my AMEX for my fellow alum.....I was being called Poppa then at 22!

Anyway.....couldn't find a picture of Gustine's on Google nor Bing images and thought that you could help!?!

Congrats to Dominic. Finally, some good news.:)
