Off to a good start. Guy scanning tickets at gate put scanner in pocket and acted bothered because he had to pull it out to scan my ticket. Then told me to "Enjoy being Cold". Lol. I literally just said "Hello" to him.

Pitt controlling the tempo for first 10 minutes. Noel had a goal called back for offsides. Jacquesson had a great opportunity but a bad first touch cost the chance.

Hofstra looking for quick strikes. Lots of long balls.

Hofstra with best chance of the match so far. Turnover by Pitt deep inHofstra’s end. Two quick passes and Hofstra was deep in Pitt’s end. Excellent cross to their CF for a free header, but he missed wide.

Send an email to Heather Lyke. If she doesn’t respond directly, then someone from the AD office will.

Pitt had more chances in the first half, but the chances Hofstra had were really good ones. I still can’t believe they missed that free header from 3 meters.

Pitt needs better finishing in this half.

4-0. Crivello with his second of the match…and the year. Off a corner kick, the goalie saved his header; the rebound came right to him; the goalie saved the shot but the rebound came to him again. Third time was the charm.

If we were going to get two goals from an outside back, who would have thought they would come ftom our Left Back and not our Right Back!

Excellent game. Looks like Almeida will be done for the season. A nagging injury that often cannot heel unless you take a ton of time off.

We’d have beaten PSU by 20. I assume Pitt hosts if Wake Forest wins tomorrow?

Correct. Root hard for Wake. I don't think we will beat ND. They are excellent defensively, so well organized. We dont even get many great chances vs them. Haven't scored on them in 200 minutes. And Jack Lynn is guaranteed to get a goal on a counter. He will wear the red, white, and blue one day in my opinion. We're going to need to have to win 2-1 or 1-1 in PKs. Not having Petkovic and Almeida are killers.

Where is this streamed and please attach any highlights.

It was on the ACCNetwork XTra channel which is streamed on ESPN Plus. Lots of times you can watch repeats “on demand.” If you have ESPN Plus its worth checking to see.

St. Louis beat Duke tonight in a mild upset.

I didn't think Duke was that good. I watched a little bit of SLU/LIU and they had over 6000 people there. Made me a bit embarrassed to brag about Pitt soccer getting 1000+. Also, I was like, why do they even have a soccer stadium that big? Apparently, it was the largest crowd in like 30-40 years but St. Louis is a great soccer city and with no MLS team (for another year or so), SLU probably draws reasonably well.

It’s better to be cold than to be a douchebag.

What did they do?
Duke asshole player goes and taunts the UCLA goalie like a punk. That dude is the ACC player of the year. I’ve never seen that kind of crap in a college game before. Than he gets pushed and does the most ridiculous acting job rolling around. He really should have gotten knocked out instead of pushed.

They have led the NCAA in average attendance on multiple occasions, although none very recently. Also three of the four highest attended non-NCAA tournament college soccer games ever, including by far the two largest, were St. Louis home games (played at Busch Stadium). Although again, those were a while ago.

Wow wtf was that about? It wasn’t even a good taunt lol

UCLA had been leading 1-0 with 4 minutes left. Duke scored in the 87th minute and then in the 88th minute. After the second goal, the Duke player taunted the UCLA goalie.

When I played, that would have been handled by the Duke player being helped off the field shortly after play resumed, possibly with a chunk of his leg remaining on the field. But, there might not have been time for that.

I imagine not one person other than a dedicated Duke fan who saw that clip rooted for Duke against St. Louis.

To Sean Miller Fan’s point about St. Louis: in the 60s and 70s, it was the center of soccer in the U.S. The first area to have organized youth soccer. One of the first places to have high school soccer teams. Provided large numbers of players for college programs.

I believe Indiana won the national championship one year with 8 players from the St Louis area. When we played Michigan State in 1967, they were ranked #2 and had 15 players from the St Louis area on the squad. Washington University of St. Louis was very good although it’s high academic requirements limited it’s recruiting. Southern Illinois was a power because of its proximity to St. Louis.

Back then, recruiting foreign players wasn’t huge. The two we had at Pitt both were at Pitt on academic scholarships paid for by their government. There were a couple of hundred African students at Pitt under that program. Sheldon and Ernie just happened to pretty good soccer players and came out for the team. So, recruiting players from the St. Louis area was imperative if you wanted to have a top program.

They still have a lot of local players on their team and only 3 foreign players.

Amateur soccer was huge there. Including adult leagues. The US national team used to play there frequently. That’s still a very impressive crowd on a Thanksgiving weekend and I imagine most of the spectators were not affiliated with SLU.

SLU played at Busch? I swear I didnt get my Pitt/PSU Labor Day Sunday in front of 30K at Heinz frok them

Basically, other than Alabama, Notre Dame and Hofstra you really don't think that anyone is any good.

I was trying to think and yea, you're right. I haven't seen most of the non-cons but yes, I think its Pitt, Notre Dame and then everyone else. No one else has impressed me. I mean there's a lot of good teams but I think those are the only 2 elite teams.

Post-game pressers. Hofstra coach said Pitt is the best team he's seen in his 33 years. Also compared them to Alabama football. OK, not the 2nd part but while I didn't google his coaching history and am sure he hasn't seen many elite teams play over the years, I think what he said speaks volumes to how talented Pitt is. Especially without Petkovic and Almeida. What coulda been.

Not recently, but a long time ago, yeah.

They did not, however, draw 30,000 people. Even the best soccer market in the US couldn't make that happen, let alone one of the worst.
