Pitt is down one QB

Forget this guy, but we've got problems at QB, at least for the first half of the season. If Pickett can somehow suddenly develop into a decent college QB, we might have a fighting chance to win more than 6 games. But I just don't see that happening.

I’m glad that he made the decision to give his parents a (financial) break. If St. Francis is giving him a scholarship (and assuming that Pitt isn’t), then by all means take the scholarship and transfer.

Ain’t nothing better than graduating from college debt-free!

I totally agree. Going to college and getting it paid for while graduating debt-free is the priority. I'd say that for anyone on any team, regardless of where it is. Graduating is the number 1 priority, then graduating debt-free is next. If playing sports is the means by which you accomplish this, go for it. But for any student-athlete, graduating college is the #1 goal.

I still think that was a result of our previous OC. Pickett showed flashes. The opener he hit like 14 straight passes so accuracy isn't an issue. I think Whipple will make a difference

Did you see Pete Gonzalez going off as a first time starter his senior year in 97? How about Stull in 09? Did you think Peterman would be an NFL QB following his first year at Pitt? Not being confrontational, pointing that we often can be pleasantly surprised by these performance strides.

We’ve all read what Borbely said about last years line. This season we have a bigger and more athletic bunch who are well ahead of last season’s counterparts. Not saying we have Alabama’s line but we should be a lot better. Combine that with Whipple’s scheme and efforts and I don’t think we have the dire scenario you’ve forcasted.

This is correct. The QB Whisperer made a rookie Ben Roethlisberger look all pro when he coached him with the Steelers.

Let's see--he completed a strong of short passes against a last-place in league, 3-8 FCS team, so his "accuracy isn't an issue"?

did you watch the other 11 games? He was terribly inaccurate.

Hopefully with the help of Whipple he gets it together this year, but he was downright bad in just about every measurable way last year, no excuses. He has a ton to prove and no warm up game this year.

The first game gives the most cause for hope. Not because of the opponent but because he WAS quite good in the first half. Then he appeared to hurt his knee, and then he kinda stunk the rest of that game, and of course for most of the season thereafter. Our Kremlin like staff never reported anything on his injury or health that I recall. So the admittedly warped hope is that he had an injury most or all the season and probably shouldn't have been playing (that's the warped part, bizarrely hoping that we'd cart out an injured guy week in and out...yikes). Anyway, the hope being he's healthy now and for an improved new OC of course.

I'll suppress the playing an injured guy thing, both for the ethics of it and the frankly more disturbing factor that an injured guy who often performed abysmally was still considered better than the backups.

Yep, all 11. Plus the bowl game and acc championship. Stand by my statement.

He played great against Miami in 17' and Wake last year. He was banged up with a knee and had a poor OL. Sure, he flat out sucked for most of last season but he's got a clean slate.

This will be the first time since the final year at Pitt Stadium that I didn't get season tix and I may not make a single game. I guarantee they will breakout this season and he will he a big reason why. Its fate.
