Pitt-Marshall Game Time Guess

Does anyone think there's a chance of night games ( 7 pm or later) for Marshall and GT. Juggling hotels between Northshore and Southside but don't want to travel back to Southside on public trans at 11 at night.

OK. In doing a little analysis of that day's ACC games (which is a very crowded day), I would say there are 2 possibilities:

1. No TV. So it becomes an ACCN Extra game at the kick time is then to he decided by Pitt and Pitt alone. So, I would guess they would opt for a 6PM kick.

2. Root Sports pushes Fox Sports South to do the game because of the large ratings it would bring in their footprint (which includes the entire state of WV). So FSS does a noon/3:30 doubleheader like they are doing this week and I'd guess we'd be the nooner.

I am basing this on:

Miami/GT get the ACC's 3:30 ESPNU slot
Raycom's 12:30 game is either Duke/UVa or Wake/NCSU

FSS will do the game Raycom doesnt pick for a 12:30 kick or do a noon/3:30 DH with Pitt/Marshall being the noon game, serving as lead-in on Root for the 4:15 Pirates game.

So, noon or 6 is my guess. It depends how badly Root wants to push for the game.

i know TV dictates when we play our games but I am trying to see when we will play...especially since it is non conference didnt know if this would be anything but a nooner.

I'm hoping for a night game against GT. We need at least 1 while the weather is still decent.

Steelers play at 1:00 the day after GT. I'm going to both.

Isn't GT Homecoming? I'd guess noon for HC game and actually hope its a noon or 330 kick so I can make the 185 mile trip home after the game. Throwbacks that day too so hopefully we'll be on TV so the youngsters can see how awesome those unis were.

I'm going with 11am and they are going to decrease the number of portajohns in Red 7 D from two to one just to spite those of us that are assigned to park there.

We have no say in game times, TV tells us what time THEY want us to play and what station the game will be broadcast on.

In this case, tv can likely dictate the start time. However, they don't ahve total control. When the Succos are playing a night game, Pitt won't have a night game, whether tv wants it or not.

What are your thoughts on game time for Pitt-Marshall Oct 1. No pirates game.
yeah someone get on that, it is my first "parent's weekend" as a Pitt dad...I am hoping middle of the afternoon so my wife does not get to her list of lame stuff to do itinerary...

Really rooting for a 3:30 kick here too! You'll see a much bigger Marshall crowd if we get that late afternoon time slot.

Very little chance of 3:30 I think. The Pirates are on Root in that timeslot and I dont think the game is good enough to warrant the ACC's 3:30 ESPNU slot.

Either noon on Root or 6PM on the internet is my guess.

Would lay even money it'll be on Root and it will be at noon because there is a Pirates game that night. Pitt and Marshall might not be "relevant" to West Virginia fans - but that game will damn sure be relevant in WV that day because most of the WVU fans will be rooting for Marshall but they'll also be happy if we lay the wood to them as well. Basically it was like when we all sat and enjoyed Temple knocking off PSU last year.

ROOT makes a ton of money from WV subscribers and they'll want this game.

Yea.

Marshall @ Pitt at noon followed by Pirates pregame at 3:30 then Pirates @ Cardinals at 4:15 is about as good a day that Root can ask for. To Root, Pitt and Marshall is a matchup of "local teams."

The question is whether FSS will see the value in producing this "extra game." Root already bought the ACC package so its not like FSS will make more money by selling it individually to Root.

Sorry, we just had 50,000 Penn State fans take over our stadium, can't allow it....;)

I'm praying that GT is a noon game. It's the only time that would allow me to go to that game that day.

Juggling hotels between Northshore and Southside but don't want to travel back to Southside on public trans at 11 at night.

In many cities with decent public transit rail systems, people don't even get on to go somewhere until 11pm.

After reviewing the facts my guess is noon for Marshall and a night game for GT.
We'll see!
Why not? Get on the T and it takes you what, ten minutes to get there? If you have an irrational fear of traveling alone at night well the T would be filled with plenty of other Pitt fans after the game.
Well we ( wife & I) either stay on the Northshore or Southside.
So if its a night game Southside is a problem because we get off at the 1st ave stop and walk past the detention center and over the bridge to Southside Holiday Inn ( lots of free rooms there). Not a great walk at midnight and there's no cabs at the 1st ave stop for obvious reasons.
Maybe you can let me know of a better way.
Could take the T to Station Square but again the walk to Southside isn't good and the cabs hate the short drive from Station Square to Southside.
The T is great fast and safe its the walk when we get off between 11-midnight that's a night game problem. S

Uber my man.. Actually, take the T to station square, walk down carson to holiday inn express.. it's only 10 blocks.. Not terrible, worst case you get clipped by a drunk 19 year old on carson street..

Noon is always a safe bet for pitt home games. The ACC owns noon.

Realistically, there are just many more noon windows. The ACC can get ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU ar noon. Then there's the 12:30 Raycom and FSS syndicate games.

3:30 you get a lot of Big Ten/Big 12 on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2. ESPNU does do a 3:30 ACC weekly game.

Then the SEC owns primetime on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and SECN.

So, its pretty hard to NOT play at noon until ACCN starts in 2019.

I never thought of Uber great idea they're in Pittsburgh now!
Yes! Thanks!
Yeah, it's pretty sweet. They might jack the price up on you a bit on a Saturday night but who cares, It worth 8-10 bucks compared to walking down carson at midnight or even on bingham to avoid the drunk drivers..

Yeah... That's honestly the biggest drawback with Heinz. Bucs dictating noon starts when Pitt and the Pirates are at home. A 3:30PM start would've been ideal for this game. I don't doubt Marshall fans will travel really well. I'd say 5K+ for sure will make the trip.

How is Marshall this season? I assume their only loss will be to Louisville when they come to Pittsburgh.

There is also always Uber, which is also helping a local Pittsburgh business and employer. Hail to Pitt!

Buffet is scared of all the "thugs" he thinks will be on the T or on the Southside. He's been conditioned by Fox News to be afraid of his own shadow.

Hard to tell, with only 1 game in the books and it being an FCS opponent. I have high expectations that we will give Louisville all that they can handle though, especially after their high emotions game against Florida State.

Ah! The Pirates are away when they play Marshall. My mistake. Hopefully the game gets a good start time. If Pitt's playing well, it'll draw a nice crowd.

I'm thinking you're squad will best Akron this weekend too for a minimum of 2 wins heading into Pittsburgh.

Selfishly I'm in the same boat and hoping for a noon kick too.
Usually I'd be hoping for the game to start as late as possible but I have other things to do so this is the only game I hope is a noon. And it probably will be.
