Pitt men's soccer advances to Elite 8 for 5th time in program history.

Next Saturday should be a big one in Oakland with soccer hosting the NCAA Elite 8 at 3pm and the volleyball hosting the NCAA 2nd round at 7pm.

Next weekend should be a big one in Oakland with soccer hosting the Elite 8 and the volleyball the 1st & 2nd rounds.

I hope they schedule them not to conflict. I've never been to a volleyball match but I'd go if it was scheduled close to the soccer match. And I am sure volleyball fans would say the same thing. Great opportunity to support both teams and 2 elite coaches.

Pitt has a good deal of say of when to start the soccer game since it isnt televised (ESPN+). I dont trust Pitt enough to schedule it around volleyball. I remember Pitt had an NCAAT soccer match a few years back that they started at 7PM, a direct conflict with a 7PM Pitt basketball game vs Arkansas-Pine Bluff I think. This was when Pitt was bad at basketball. I went to soccer and it was packed. Zeise was ripping Pitt on the radio saying how far Pitt basketball has fallen since soccer outdrew basketball that night. He also seemed like your meathead yinzer making light of soccer but whatever.

Actually they probably don't. Do you think they'd be playing all four games today at 5:00 or later local time on a Sunday if the schools had much say in it?

Pitt's volleyball matches are already set by the NCAA: Fri Dec 6th @ 7pm and Sat Dec 7th @ 7pm.

Ultimately, it is the NCAA match to determine, not Pitt's.

I’ve heard Zeise on the Fan show lot of respect to soccer. He’s not a soccer guy but he appreciates it…probably because he had kid athletes and was/is involved with youth sports. He also played soccer at Point Park I believe as a goalkeeper.

I’d get frustrated listening to Starkey because he has a volleyball and softball bias when it comes to girls sports because his daughter is/was involved with those sports. He doesn’t understand the popularity of girls soccer because it’s not part of his world. And a few times Zeise would pop in with an occasional mention.

Yes. I think Sunday early evenings are perfect for attendance if you must play on a Sunday. I think the schools can almost name their time within reason.

You might think that, but pretty much every sports organization in the country clearly disagrees with you.

Vidovich has done an amazing job because this program was basically a D2 program at one time not all that long ago.

Before Vidovich broke through in 2019, Pitt had 18 consecutive losing seasons. It hadn't won a single ACC game until 2017.

Elite 8 game is scheduled for Sat Dec 7 @ 3pm. Fits perfectly for a Pitt double header with Volleyball's 2nd round game later that day @ 7pm.
