Pitt message board user commitment/portal thread

I am going to continue to post on the free boards here but bought an annual membership on 247 to give that site a try. So I'll probably do both.

They tried to lure me away with cash dollars, fancy cars, clothes, a mansion with a pool and massage therapy….

I am announcing my re commitment to the University of Pit…. Er…. Ah… the Pantherlair

I have a free account over there already. Its not user friendly. Not sure i want to give peak my money so he can post 45 minute videos that have 3 minutes of info. Got sick of that here. I want articles!!!!

I am going to 247 because I miss Chrissy banning me, a paid customer, while leaving ****s like Soufie alone because politically they are aligned.

I would do both. But I can’t log into 247 for some reason right now. It’s not a one or the other decision for me. Would love for this site to offer a discount to join as well.

I’m guessing I’ll login on here for a few more months just because it’s been a habit for a long time and my subscription runs for another year.

But I’m also thinking it might be a good time to walk away altogether. I’ve always loved Pitt sports, and enjoy the conversations on here…but college sports have changed and even this move by Rivals/Chris/whoever has left a sour taste in my mouth.

All that said, I’ve been planning to cut back for about 10 years and here we are. So who knows.

What can Chris say in these articles that aren’t already here in these threads?. I honestly can’t think of one time Chris ever brought value to this site, especially since the twitter era began. He has no inside info. He was nothing more than a mod, a mod who allowed political discussion to happen as long as it was a progressive dominated discussion bullying a lone conservative.

I’m in till October. I purchased the introductory new guy discount, $28.00 with TOS.
Will have a true loyalty by then.
So far, this sight is a lot easier to navigate.

I’m not trying to pile on Chris and I think he is a good guy.

But the last 2 years or so, it seemed like all of his attention was on YouTube and he very rarely contributed to the discussion board. The insider info dried up almost completely…or could be found in his YouTube stuff like a day later. Again, business decisions…but I hope in his new venture he can re-find what made this place good years ago.

*Side note: I know he did write articles too, and I’m guilty because I didn’t read many of them.

Personally, I’d prefer the moderators NOT participate in the board discussions AT ALL…..it comes across as trying to to drive discussion and conclusions in a certain direction. In my opinion, they should stick to providing content…let the posters conduct their own discussions and reach their own conclusions without essentially outside interference.

Agree. Unfortunately, I see they have nuked a very astute observation I've made about Tennessee chicks that was intended to prompt intriguing scientific discussion.

There was a time when I was more connected to the program and I found the moderator(s) deleted my posts despite they were valid. I scooped them and they did not like it.

I've posted earlier, I can't get real excited about hosting a bunch of 2 or 3 stars from Texas or Georgia. I remember during the recruitment of Hamlin hanging on every thread looking at clues people posted (wearing Pitt gloves during a game, a ND shirt during another). But local recruitment is on life support, and losing kids to Duke of all places is tough to watch. So I'm not as inclined to spring for a premium membership given there isn't much hope in recruiting. Prefer to use that money towards Alliance412, however futile that may be.

Well, at least it proves someone out there in the universe is involved with this site. It’s Monday and I would liked to have thought we would have been apprised today about who is going to manage this site….last time I checked we were paying for a service that was to involve more than someone policing the message boards.

You’re also confused
But it seems related to paying a subscription for information and content which is free.

There really wasn't much the insiders could say anymore that I found interesting. Recruiting used to be awesome back when there was only one signing day. So much drama in those final months, and there were also a few guys who remained uncommitted right up until that last day that Pitt was always in on. The scuttlebutt was a male soap opera that many of us ate up with a spoon. And I could tell you every player in our class, what their recruiting ranking was, where they were from, etc.

Now, that's all but lost. Early signing day has killed off a lot of the fun, and what little fun was left NIL has taken care of. If a guy verbals to us in June, I take it with a grain of salt. And even if he does come here and show promise (Edwards, Okunlola, etc.), well, even that doesn't mean a damn thing anymore. I could name exactly one player from our most recent recruiting class off the top of my head. I'll learn the guys who are in the two deep once the season begins.

Edit to add: If you're newer to being a hardcore college football fan, I don't think you could understand just what an event signing day used to be - like the NFL Draft on steroids, because you were adding so many new guys. And year-round recruiting talk was about as juicy as it got. "I heard so and so visited here," etc. Sad how quickly it all changed.

There’s no reason why the calendar date is what determines whether signing day is fun or not.

Those days, whether December or February, were about the Paris Ford ranked level of recruits. Nobody ever cared where. 3* .86 level recruit signed.

And the Paris Fords stopped coming. So there’s no reason to care which hat a recruit picks up from the table.

I heard that some of the 2025 combine athletes caught Paris Ford, who was still finishing his 2021 combine 40 run.

I remember going to the signing day events. Guys would be there with their notebooks and writing down notes on the list of recruits the staff would pass out.

It's a combination of things. Not doing as well with 4-stars and locals is a part of it. But Pitt, which doesn't do officials during the season, also used to host a lot of uncommitted guys in December and January, and the distribution was much more balanced. Now, we get almost all of our recruits in the summer. How many uncommitted guys with offers visit us after June now? Not many. And I don't remember the last commitment we've even landed after early signing day. Everything is just about wrapped up by then, whereas you had two full months of drama in the past.

Beyond that, you hardly even care if you do land a commit because you're worried about losing him every year. The whole re-recruiting your own roster thing every season kind of gets old.

And then, of course, you have to worry about the transfers you bring in. And yeah - this is where I definitely agree that being a school on Pitt's level is a big reason for the lack of excitement. We have to settle for the fixer-uppers, whereas if we were a school like Ohio State I could see this being the most exciting time of the year - adding game-ready pieces.
