There really wasn't much the insiders could say anymore that I found interesting. Recruiting used to be awesome back when there was only one signing day. So much drama in those final months, and there were also a few guys who remained uncommitted right up until that last day that Pitt was always in on. The scuttlebutt was a male soap opera that many of us ate up with a spoon. And I could tell you every player in our class, what their recruiting ranking was, where they were from, etc.
Now, that's all but lost. Early signing day has killed off a lot of the fun, and what little fun was left NIL has taken care of. If a guy verbals to us in June, I take it with a grain of salt. And even if he does come here and show promise (Edwards, Okunlola, etc.), well, even that doesn't mean a damn thing anymore. I could name exactly one player from our most recent recruiting class off the top of my head. I'll learn the guys who are in the two deep once the season begins.
Edit to add: If you're newer to being a hardcore college football fan, I don't think you could understand just what an event signing day used to be - like the NFL Draft on steroids, because you were adding so many new guys. And year-round recruiting talk was about as juicy as it got. "I heard so and so visited here," etc. Sad how quickly it all changed.
