Pitt message board user commitment/portal thread

There really wasn't much the insiders could say anymore that I found interesting. Recruiting used to be awesome back when there was only one signing day. So much drama in those final months, and there were also a few guys who remained uncommitted right up until that last day that Pitt was always in on. The scuttlebutt was a male soap opera that many of us ate up with a spoon. And I could tell you every player in our class, what their recruiting ranking was, where they were from, etc.

Now, that's all but lost. Early signing day has killed off a lot of the fun, and what little fun was left NIL has taken care of. If a guy verbals to us in June, I take it with a grain of salt. And even if he does come here and show promise (Edwards, Okunlola, etc.), well, even that doesn't mean a damn thing anymore. I could name exactly one player from our most recent recruiting class off the top of my head. I'll learn the guys who are in the two deep once the season begins.

Edit to add: If you're newer to being a hardcore college football fan, I don't think you could understand just what an event signing day used to be - like the NFL Draft on steroids, because you were adding so many new guys. And year-round recruiting talk was about as juicy as it got. "I heard so and so visited here," etc. Sad how quickly it all changed.
In light of the changes in recruiting, these sites have evolved from being recruiting focused to being more general sports news oriented and catalysts for overall athletics discussions. I don’t mind that change because I still really enjoy following all aspects of Pitt sports but somewhere along the line, in my opinion, the university athletics dept. media cops got involved with these sites and have tried to influence content and discussions both directly and indirectly, and this has had the impact of watering down content and discussions.

Yes. This is so true. I couldn't tell you who our incoming recruits are. I couldn't name anyone in the top 10 of Rivals 100 in football or basketball. It's pointless, especially for a program like Pitt. Here's what really sucks, when I see we get a decent young talent who is playing early, I automatically assume he will leave. That is pretty hard to become invested as a fan anymore.

yeah, when there is practically no hope for local recruits like Maleek Thomas or Quinton Martin, it makes following this stuff closely pretty pointless.

I told the 24/7 admin that their site stinks and doesn't go to website awards. So I am recommitting to Rivals.

Solid as fiber.

Please use this thread to announce your decision to either stay committed to the Rivals network, or if you are entering the portal and intend to transfer to the other site

I will be staying put. Respect my decision.
I joined other site. Still with Rivals for several months… might continue with both sites depending on the content.

I bought a subscription over there and posted there over the weekend, but I might end up staying here if the traffic remains. Ideally, I’d like to remain on Rivals because the UI is much more user-friendly over here. We’ll see what happens the next couple months…
