PITT-North Carolina Game Day Prediction:
Fedora’s experience and Veteran Stable Staff has out prepared, out coached, out recruited, and out played Pitt the last 2 years? The games I am using to portend this game are UVA and GT. Both Pitt and UNC played UNC about the same, so no help there to predict. I think Cuse was the Trap Scare Game Pitt Players is the clue they needed to be even more focus on this game, along with better tackling, and long drives. I have one big fear, that I expect Fedora will use a few dirty plays on Pitt Players, and the ACC Refs like to ignore such misdeeds from North Carolina Teams. If Boyd can be, knock out, the Panther Claws are gone, and UNC needs to stop Pitt’s Beast to win, so look out? On the other hand, Coach Narduzzi knows how to give that right back should he need it? So, how to measure and predict this important game know the following details? Both Teams have won the same games as last season, qualified for a Bowl Games, Undefeated in Conference, Ranks next to each other in Betting Line Power Ratings, Eyeing a Coastal Division Championship, Playing in the ACC Championship Game, Playing Success not seen In Years, Both lost Heart-Breakers to SEC SC and B1G Iowa, and the last time both had 10 wins they played in Bowl Game? At the same time, Pitt does not look great in winning late and by a few points, while UNC has won by more points often and higher. Pitt just does not blow away anybody, but the Players stay in the game all day long, but so does UNC? It gets worse; Pitt coming from behind to win 4th Quarter was last done against UNC in the Bowl Game of 2009? Nevertheless, the Old Panthers that lost 32 consecutive games when losing in the 4th is gone now. UNC is 3-0 since 1997 but this year they win late games too, by stopping and outscoring Teams. Therefore, Both Coaches & Staff know it is not about just Half Time Adjustments in this game. It is about which Team can stay focus, discipline, and not panic with being more patient with their play, as far as I am concern. UNC can defend the pass, but has some trouble against the run. Remember how Special Teams are important well no edge there either, both will play well. My Head says until Pitt shows it can beat Fedora UNC players they will win by an edge, but…my Heart is with Narduzzi having a better Defense and Special Teams. More importantly, the UNC Players are not expecting this typeof guile this time around and by the time they wake up, unless the ACC Refs makes some bad calls, Pitt will pull it out. Therefore, I am going with Pitt by 3 or less under the lights out at Heinz. Since I am going with my Heart, ("Intelligence Comes From The Heart!"), I am going to also use magic and miracles with superstition near this Halloween! Along with the mystical Pitt Script official return as well too that is slowly removing Pederson's Poison out of the Pitt Football Program? Yeah, that’s right, if you gussed it....PITT IRON-HEAD HEYWARD #34 is smiling down on his beloved Pitt and his son that is on the Steelers there to see Pitt win it with all of Pitt too!
Game Day Prediction:
"34" PITT 31 North Carolina

Pitt Preseason Prediction August 2015:
Get use to an exact rematch the last two seasons when Pitt lost on Chryst’s Special Education on Special Teams costing Pitt players that played their hearts out losing leads they had and did not deserve to be let down by Chryst arrogance and ignorance not needing Special Teams? This is such a tough game to pick. Not much analysis here, but if Pitt can make UNC take points by FG's instead of TD's, then I like our chances. I think the offense clearly needs at least 4-5 TD's in order to win this game.

That said, the season is not lost because of a potential loss. Lots to play for and if you said after the YSU game that minus a James Conner we would be 6-1, I would have asked you to lay off the beer. Looking forward to the next two weeks with huge games at Heinz.

My prediction is Pitt 38-UNC 35

:rolleyes::D:rolleyes:

There are a lot of known quantities regarding these two teams, but the 2 big things for UNC that have wildly affected their success are:

1) Which Marquise Williams shows up? Some games he's totally on and nearly unstoppable, in others he can't make enough bad decisions. He loves to run when pressured, and we like to provide pressure and focus on stopping the run, but we've also given up some long runs when our D hasn't stuck to their assignments and the wrong DE or LB has over-pursued. Williams takes hard hits, whether it's when he's running downfield or throwing the ball (as great as UNC's line is at run blocking, their pass protection is so-so), and he's been removed from some games in which he's taken hard hits. Williams will affect the game by either a) successfully running against us, b) making bad decisions under pressure, c) taking hard hits and losing effectiveness, or d) taking hard hits and being removed (the backup is a much better passer, so this is bad). No one knows which of those is most likely, but hopefully Narduzzi has a good plan to keep him contained and under pressure.

2) Turnovers. UNC has won the tight games (presumably against teams with equal-ish talent) when they have dominated the turnover margin. UNC has lost the tight games when they had a negative turnover margin. They have not faced a team that is both near their talent level and whose QB is anywhere close to Peterman's efficiency; Pitt is the first, and this is why we will be their hardest test. Williams is not the best at reading defenses as a QB, so he can be pressured into some costly turnovers. Ollison has coughed up the ball a few times this season; has he learned his lesson? If we lose more than 1 turnover, UNC will likely win.

These 2 issues will determine the game. I think Williams breaks a run or two (he's dynamic, don't freak out when it happens), but we'll keep his passing under control, even though our DB's will have some trouble with UNC's huge WR's. He will do something dumb at some point trying to force the action against our pressure D. I doubt Peterman suddenly starts tossing picks (he should be under very little pressure from UNC's DLine), so I'm not terribly afraid of the turnover battle. We will run a lot against their bad run D and eat up as much clock as possible all game long, and although we'll give up more points than we'd like in the 2nd quarter, our QB is much better conditioned to play smart in the second half, so Pitt wins by outscoring them 14-10 after halftime.

Pitt 28-27

Speed kills, and UNC has it. We're not there yet.

That said, turnovers can be the great equalizer. If we're able to protect the ball while making UNC cough it up a couple of times, then I think we can win. We cannot miss tackles - especially those on blitzes where we line up Williams in the backfield.

Pitt sneaks out another win 30-28 in the 4th quarter.

Back to reality a little bit. UNC has recruited well over the last few years and are finally putting it all together. I think our D is going ti struggle to stop them.....and we cant outscore them without Conner.

All good things must come to an end. Hope I'm wrong.

Pitt could lose the next 3. But I like the Short week at home. Plus I think Pitt is playing with a bit of a chip on their shoulder. Unfortunately, do not see a blow out. Pitt 27 - UNC 26

If we protect the football, do not give Carolina short fields to work with, and tackle in space well:
Pitt 34
Carolina 27

If we don't:
Carolina 38
Panthers 24

I am clearly biased against the tar holes. But something also tells me Pitt will play some inspired football. They are coming back home, its at night, on national TV (typical situation that Pitt falls apart in). I predict this team has the determination to turn that history on its head. Close at half and then Pitt beats them in 2nd half adjustments that let Boyd run wild. 38-23 Pitt.

Pitt has a chance and I think this may be an overtime game. Certainly single digit victory for one or the other. I think our team has gotten stronger as the game goes on so, in that respect, I like Pitt's chances to keep it close into the fourth quarter. If we play possession football and hope our defense can keep pace with the NC quick play tempo we win - but don't think that happens. We do not contain mobile QBs very well. I am hoping that the colder temperature (mid-40s) element accounts for above average drops by NC receivers on Thursday night.

They take away Boyd and we lose on national stage by 7 points. 32-28 NC wins.

In the spirit of Halloween "Boooooo...for your pick." I hope you are wrong too... :D

Pitt 43
UNC 42

Down 42-35 Pitt scores a TD and Narduzzi drags his brass grapefruits all over the sideline going for two. Onto the field trots no one other than JAMES CONNER who knocks the entire UNC defense into the stratosphere on his way into the end zone. The shockwave blows the rest of the UNC team into the Atlantic somewhere off Hilton Head island. Conner keeps running all the way to the Downtown Athletic Club in Manhattan where he eats the Heisman trophy raw, no thanks I'm James Conner don't need any barbecue sauce or horseradish or anything to chomp through this bronze. Lee Corso finds this post and for Gameday next week proclaims "SO IT WAS WRITTEN. SO IT WAS. MENE, MENE, TEKEL UPHARSIN." He then picks ND to win of course.

Both teams are playing with a short week, so which one will be better prepared? If I went by what I have been reading online this past week about the UNC football team, I would suggest that Pitt not even show up for the game. But, what you cannot measure in words is the heart in a player and a new coach that have something to prove to a school, its fans, and to its town.

Another nail biter type of game. UNC's offense is scary. They have a QB who can really run and some very fast RB's. Our LB's and safeties have to play the game of the season to have any chance of controlling these guys. Offensively, our Oline needs to run block really well. We need long, sustained scoring drives to keep UNC offense off the field.

Maybe I'm drinking the kool-aid but I see it:

Pitt: 28

If Pitt can run the ball against UNC they will run the ball against UNC . That equeals to ball controll and clock controll... Pitt 31 Unc 28

I don't have a good feeling about this game. The Tar Heel offense has given Pitt fits the past couple of years and I see much of the same happening Thursday. Hope to get some TOs and capitalize on them.
UNC 41, Pitt 31
Actually, Pitt played them tough in both games but lost giving up Special Team Plays that went for TDS. Now that Coach Pat & Staff have improved all 3 Units, Pitt should be a close game. Also, Pitt has played a tougher schedule. Iowa is far tougher than South Carolina! UVA/GT Equal! But Cuse, VT, Akron, and YSU were better than NCA&T, Delaware, Illinois and Wake Forest?

However, Fedora was a great coach at Southern Missy and has done better in recruiting than Pitt and has more talent! They do have an edge there, but coach Pat is here with better Special Teams unlike the Anti-Chryst that had poor Special Teams.

I am worried UNC will target Boyd to put him out of the game. We shall see?

My predictions usually stink so thats a good thing in this case. Even if Pitt loses; I'm convinced the program is pointed in the right direction and is in much better shape than a year ago.

The Pitt defense may give Williams a tough evening.

I enjoy your post and views and this is a close game but even i want to go with my head and choose UNC, but Coach Pat & Staff have captured my Heart! Hard to bet against them and him, I call it "Coaching With Narduzzi Guile!"?

I am worried about UNC QB an Wood!

PITT is make some serious waves in prime time. The running game continues to improve, and the defense likely received some hard coaching during the short week for their uninspired tackling performance last week.

Boyd will break off two big plays for TDs, Ollison keeps the chains moving with James. Price and Blair get back to wreaking havoc and forcing Williams and Hood into the waiting arms of the interior DL.

PITT: 31
UNC: 24
