He caught three passes for only 13 yards, however. Four Pitt players scored touchdowns on the ground: running backs James Conner and Chawntez Moss, fullback George Aston and Peterman. That was the first time that has happened at Pitt in 20 years.

Pitt played the game without four regulars on defense. Linebacker Elijah Zeise (ankle) and defensive end Dewayne Hendrix (foot) are lost for the season, and senior linebacker Mike Caprara didn't play because of what Pitt is calling a lower-body injury. Senior linebacker Bam Bradley (lower body) played sparingly. Redshirt freshman linebacker Saleem Brightwell made his first career start and recorded five tackles, a sack, fumble recovery and pass breakup. Pitt had only one other pass breakup, and that was by cornerback Ryan Lewis on North Carolina's final drive.
