Pitt number 39 on Worlds most innovative University -Reuters

Yet another Great score on a list of great universities. Last year we came in 30th, and CMU was 56th and PSU was 70th.

This year we came in 39th, while CMU and PSU did not make the cut in the top 100.

Very interesting. I had no idea Pitt was so prolific in patenting. Well, I had an idea, but not on that scale.

These are one of the more important rankings Pitt can appear in, and it is showing good consistency between the two years. Pitt has ramped up the emphasis on technology transfer the last couple of years starting with the creation of the Innovation Institute under the the last administration. Gallagher has certainly made it a priority coming in with the Chancellor's Innovation and Commercialization Funds that were established this year. And it is paying off: in FY2016, Pitt had record high invention disclosures submissions (216), patents awarded (80), and startup companies formed based on its developed technologies (13). That great for the city, region, and the university, as Pitt received $7.3 million in licensing revenue this past year.

This is also the sort of thing which should generate prominent articles in the local papers.

I was floored by this. 30-39 in the entire world is downright great. I'm going to be looking up ways I can use Pitt now. We work with several top schools

We had this, the world and news report global and a few others really paint Pitt in a favorable position this year. Far above others in the area,

well, I do not see penn state on this list at all. I think this must be an error, how can 90,000 students at the best school in the world be out worked by 20 some thousand students at Pitt?

Nice to see this. It would be really interesting to see what parts of the university are making the most contributions to the ranking....its not just a patent but its citations and impact etc according to the methodology

I can pretty much guarantee it is the Med School followed by Swanson.

In response to this announcement, the Post Gazette will publish another article about the cyanide professor soon.
