Pitt Offers Curtis Aiken, Jr., Rob Carmody

Except for the few already known expected stars most 2018 kids (current high school frosh) either have not yet been evaluated or their star rating is at best a total WAG especially in respect to what it will be or should be in 3 years when they become high school seniors.

Both are 2 stars.

Not listed on Scout, Rivals or ESPN.

2018 recruits... which is a ways off.

Just curious where they are listed as 2 stars then. basically at this point, 2 stars means "we can't evaluate them yet".

Original poster (before editing message ??), I believe, labeled them as "2 stars" but probably was referring to it being "two class of 2018 star players" and not ones with "2-star ratings." Thus, the confusion we are now in, IMHO.

That being said, it remains true that identifying the eventual star-rating quality of the 2018 recruiting class players while they are high school freshman who haven't been seen beyond AAU U-14, play this past summer is pretty much a crap shoot. Their receipt of Pitt offers is, therefore, neither a cause for joy nor a cause for alarm.

No way Aiken could go elsewhere right? His dad is a Pitt bball employee. I'd be stunned.

I'd like to see Jamie and Narduzzi offer Jurkovec from P-R the rare football/bball option. Bball Jan-Mar. Football Mar-Jan. Yinzers will talk him out of bball but I think that's a bad idea to give up on it. Ask Terrelle Pryor.

Pryor made some good $$$ from FB. So did some other folks in Jeanette. How many 6-5 forwards make the NBA?? His family's made the right decision....FB all the way. Pryor wasn't NBA material......not a good shooter.

Actually.... I did a search on each of them and there is one site (forget the name) that has a star rating and then the ratings from Scout, Rivals and ESPN.... and in both of these cases they gave them 2 stars and the other sites did not have them listed..

They are sophomores now not freshmen... but still 2018 is a ways down the road to be sure.

Yeah, the last time Dixon tried this he did it was Heron and Rowan and... we all know how that all worked out. But, those two were 4 star recruits while these two are just 2 star recruits.

But yeah also, hard to say how these players are gonna pan out. Chris Jones and Cam Johnson, to take two examples, were not on anybody's radar until the last half of their senior year.

Those darn local 2 stars! Can't recruit them because they are only 2 star, can't not recruit them because they are local. What's a coach to do?

And there were people pi$$ing and moaning that they hadn't been offered yet. When Purdue offered Carmody and Tennessee got involved with Aiken people were having strokes that Pitt hadn't offered either one.

Can you blame people for stroking out? Early signing for those guys is only 25 months away.

Taking commitments seriously at this point is also plain stupid.

You are correct as well. However, I don't think the commitment issue is at play with these guys quite yet. They were offered early as they should have been since they are both talented and local and have presumably been well scouted by Pitt coaches because they are locals. However, I haven't heard that either has committed so that is not a subject needing to be addressed in this thread at this time.

I really can't see Aiken going somewhere else. Hopefully he's at least half as good as his dad because I think he's basically a Pitt lock in a couple years.

Just trying to point out the Heron and Rowan commitments and subsequent decommiments and all the hoopla surrounding was just a waste of time. It's nice to be involved with talented players ,but until they sign it means nothing.

But it is batter to have a commitment than not, right?

It depends. Not if the commitment is by a player who is locking in a ship for himself but remains wide open to other offers and is hoping for what he perceives is a possible better offer down the road (think Heron and Rowan). Better if the player sees Pitt as his dream school and the commitment is 100% solid from the beginning.

of course one never knows that at the time of the commitment.

Coaches should know or at least have an idea. If they suspect they keep recruiting others for that same slot.

Heron and Rowan were sketchy commits from day one.
the tricky thing is recruiting kids at the same position as Rowen and Herron, knowing they have committed. It's a catch 22.
