2024 FAB 22

Bob Schilken, Cesar Aldisert, and Marlon McIntyre all played quite a bit, or were starters for Pitt. They were good players who made an impact. There was definitely more talent back then.
Most of this year's fab 22 will be getting splinters in their ass up at state Penn. I am amazed at how willing these kids are to go to state Penn so they can be the next big thing to be fawned upon by 110,000 screaming nitwits only to be buried on the depth chart for 2 or 3 years before going elsewhere or just sticking it out for their degree. It's maddening. I mean, I'm not even suggesting Pitt is where they should go, but, most of them have other P4 offers. These kids just buy into what Terry Smith and The milk-dud are selling, only to be disappointed.
I have thought for a while that it is a bit of a game where these local recruits are the pawns in the game. I think the milk-dud loves coming to the Burgh and plucking these recruits from the Duzz, fully aware that very few if any are ever going to be real players for him.

Schilken was more interested in academics, Dennis Atiyeh ended up beating him out for his position. I believe Schilken is a doctor now

Had Pat Narduzzi hired Terry Smith then Brennan Marion his tenure would look a lot different.
For all of Gottfried's recruiting success, his biggest miss was Smith from Gateway in 1985. That would probably be the #1 do over if I could go back and change history.

But then again, similar to when Teryl Austin was recruiting for Michigan against us, not a very difficult sales job.

Exactly what happened with Adams.

Nature didn't design shoulders for football.

Adams had a lot of miles on his body too by the time he reached ND. Starting since 10th grade at 6A level, PCC playing 16 games a year. Plus I remember talking to a coach that thought he didn't have the foot speed for the next level. I've never seen Tatsch play so can't say for sure, hope he is able to recover.

Gompers and Spell are the 2 biggest names that are potential program changers in the WPIAL right now.

Gompers is simply phenomenal. Spell's best football is ahead of him, which is scary.

It's a true shame we can't bring either to Oakland.

I heard from a birdie that former Gatorade POY nitter wants to come to PITT but probably isn't likely due to NIL.

First off, that's impressive pulling that list together.

I think you are discounting some Pitt guys like Danielson, D, Green, etc that were solid pieces for winning teams. In that vain, not every recruit is going to be a pro or even an all-conference player. But anyone who is a solid contributor to the team is a recruiting win to me. So that includes Danielson, Green, Houy, etc for Pitt and Dinkins, Zandier, Salopek, Wade, etc for other schools. Lots of solid college players in that list...and also plenty that didn't do much.

Sounds like Gompers to Michigan.

The ones that I put in bold were players I felt that had or would’ve had been a difference makers for Pitt.

You are right, Danielson, Green, Houy, etc… we’re solid players, but not difference makers. I didn’t feel that Dinkins, Wade, and Salopek were much better than what we already had.

But to your point, yes they were very solid.

That's interesting. I mean Fralic was a monster, but other than Kelso, really very few of these guys did anything. Hayes did and played in the NFL. But the rest of these kids, even those who went to Pitt were nothing special.
Aldisert started all 4 years.
Bob schilken played a lot… he came to Pitt to play football for 4 years and get into med school, which he did
Schilken was more interested in academics, Dennis Atiyeh ended up beating him out for his position. I believe Schilken is a doctor now
Yes he’s been a dr for decades … he still played a lot and was a valuable player .. probably started 25 games and 4 year letterman.

It looks like we ceded the WPIAL to Franklin.
It looks like we ceded the WPIAL to Franklin. Sad.............
Does it really matter where any of these recruits go? With the transfer portal situation being as asinine as it currently is, there's a good chance that after one year at whatever school they commit to coming out of high school, they will leave. None of these recruits really have any loyalty to the school they chose. As soon as another school offers more MONEY via an NIL deal, they will leave.

I was gonna say -- I am surprised the Latrobe LB going to PSU didn't make this list. Did he have a bad season? Is he injured or something?

Seems like a lot more undecideds in comparison to years past. Is that because the high school recruiting landscape in college football has changed generally, with the limitless transfer portal and NIL results in decreased emphasis on high school kids? Or is there less talent in Western Pa? It's probably more likely a combination of both.

They are undecided because they are not that good and dont have any solid D 1 offers. PSAC here they come. WPIAL football has sucked since the mid 90’s when the demographics changed. Western PA is an old Dying suck hole.

If not for Pitt and Carnegie Mellon and Duquesne Pittsburgh would be Cleveland.

Q. Martin seems like an absolutely awful investment.
