Pitt plays better without Ford and Mack

It seems me that the defense played well, maybe even better in the secondary without Ford. Maybe him leaving was a problem that corrected itself. Perhaps given all his talent he was missing the concept of team play?

As for Mack, I have seen enough games played without him to know that he is not and never has been an impact player for this team. He makes an occasional difficult catch, but the drops seemingly disappeared with him out of the lineup. Tre Tipton even had a good game today.

Jordan Addison is the real deal and was robbed of that touchdown. Looking forward to watching him the next couple of years. I wonder how his numbers compare to Larry’s freshman year. While not physically like Fitzgerald, he carries himself like him. Mature for his age.

What changed in the 2nd quarter that allowed them to run the football?

I see some improvement, but the defense handed this game to the offense on a silver platter. Pitt needed this win badly. Good to see them beat a team they should beat. Do the Victory Lights still work?

After a slow start...real nice job by the D. At the start of the year we thought our secondary would be Ford, Hamlin, Mathis and Pinnock... Nice job by the guys who started and played today for the most part. As I said before Ford has lots of talent and will play Sunday’s. But unlike last year for every nice play he made this year he gave up 2 big plays by taking bad angles or trying to play hero ball. Hill is going to be a real good one and I like how all week the rest of the team spoke so highly of him.

Mack can make a difficult catch but drops many easy ones. He seems to get alligator arms as well on plays over the middle.

I personally like Jared Wayne for the mature comment too

Still would like to see vdavis on the bench. Too small to be a starter
Vince Davis is the black Kenny Pickett: Tough as nails, all heart, only limited by the OC's scheme

FSU did beat UNC. Not saying they are good but they are capable of beating a decent team.

still can’t stand whipple and his play calling

Pitt had some really nice young defensive players.

I like how the defense--particularly the defensive line--plays with so much energy and swarms to the ball. There will be some breakdowns in the secondary, but it's nearly impossible to be dominant in that area with the rules in place. Pitt is lacking some talent on offense, but they could get more out of the talent they do have with a better scheme and play calls.

I liked some of the new defensive looks we saw today.

If that is the case, you think the coaching staff would have seen this earlier in the year.

It's no coincidence that without Ford in the lineup the defense improved.
Too often he got caught out of position and gambling and losing the gamble costs points.
When safeties gamble and lose the result is 6. When they gamble and succeed they make a nice looking play.

The defense "looking good" had more to do with the FSU QB's running for their lives than anything else. That's the way the defense is supposed to work when you get pressure. Piling on Ford and Mack because the defense was dominant is dumb. FSU is terrible.

Pitt was definitely better on pass coverage Saturday. Way better. Best I've seen under Narduzzi. They actually mixed in some zone and no home run balls and 3 interceptions. Also, Hamlin & Hill were much, much better than Hamlin & Ford.

The facts. Draw whatever conclusion you want.

I didn't want to say this because I hate to dump on kids but Ford gave up many big plays on pass protection. People wonder why he could not get on the field earlier at PITT.....that is why. A great player against the run but he was a liability with the pass defense.
