Heather Lyke several weeks ago said that an agreement was close, and that she sent Barbour, the PSU AD, a contract. Barbour again slowed everything down, saying they have to evaluate how they are going to do their OOC schedule. It is pretty evident. They want to play regional games, and an intersectional game. So far, they have Virginia Tech in 2020 and 2025, a team they have surprisingly never played, an agreement with WVU in 2023 and 2024, who they have not played since joining the Big 10 in 1993, and Auburn in 2021 and 2022. They have all body bag games open except one in 2021. I am assuming it will be a two game series somewhere in 2026 and 2027 or 2028 and 2029.

Chris or anyone else, have you heard anything? If there is a contract sent, what is their problem this time?

Here's what Barbour probably did with Lyke's contract.

The last thing that the Nitters want is a close game or a loss to Pitt. Its a no win for the Nitters!

Plus Pitt is improving and it could become a struggle .500 series going forward.

The Nitters would prefer teams that they are sure they can beat big!

Merry Christmas to All!
Mr & Mrs Buffett
Go Pitt Panthers & CSU Rams

It’s not happening. PSU not that interested.
Lyke should move on to wvu or some other programs.

Penn State needs to sell 100K tickets. They very rarely sell out. Now, this year they did but they had a generational player and were thought to be CFP contendors. Its not like that normally. Now, if Penn State becomes Ohio State, they wont need to play Pitt to sell tickets but if they don't they would like the money playing Pitt brings.

I'm assuming another 4 game 'keystone classic' thing is on the table a decade from now which means it will take another 5 years before you even hear anything.

The series is dead. Move on and stop looking desperate. There are plenty of other great games that Pitt can schedule that would not require Pitt to bend over backwards or look pathetic to the media by begging them to play. Have some dignity.

In 14 post there was more back and forth between 2 fans bases of rival teams than any other game we played this year. That is what makes a rivalry and that is a big aspect of sports and CFB and what makes it fun. This is why i want this game played. I hate not having a rival that we PLAY. I enjoyed the back and forth with PSU fans the past 2 years. I wish we always had them or WVU on the schedule, it all more fun when you actually play your rival.

One rebel flag.

That's rich....

How's that hotel mgt degree working out?

Or is it animal husbandry???

And yet...PITT fans are hillbillies.

I don't care anymore. I was excited for it to come back, but the Penn State fans made it not fun. I'd rather play WVU every year over Thanksgiving weekend than a random assortment of games against Penn State.

If Pitt gets serious about winning and competes year in and year out for Coastal titles vs Miami year in and year out on the last Sarurday of the year.....you’ll forget all about PSU and enjoy how much more of a rival a team gets to be when “hats and shirts” are on the line. Just think how awesome the Pitt/Cincy game was when the BE title was on the line that year. Immagine 3 out of 5 years the conf title was on the line.....that game would become HUGE for Pitt fans.

Now, if Pitt decides it doesn’t want to be serious, then it needs to fight to get fake rivalries built/extended so fans can keep going after the thrill of lip service.

Sorry if I missed it, but when did the phrase "hats and shirts" become an item? Just remember hearing that recently, maybe the last couple of weeks? Is this phrase really that new and who coined it first?

Wait, so the rivalry with Penn State is fake but a rivalry with Miami, which doesn't exist and is almost certain to never exist in any real sense is where it's at?

Good god.

Fun Fact: There will be no games between WVU or PSU over Thanksgiving weekend. In fact, there won't be any games after conference play begins.

Thanksgiving weekend was the rivalry week Pitt and PSU played when they were independent. The WVU Thanksgiving weekend game only began after Paterno stopped playing Pitt, and then only after WVU became a Big East member.

Actually It was the second largest. The Michigan game had more.

Wish it would be played every year but unfortunately with the B1G 9 game Schedule it will not be. I think it is good for football in the state.

Yea, you can build a rivalry that has actual meaning vs Miami.... vs clamoring for a game vs a pretend rival that hasn’t had any meaning for 30 years.

Kinda like how rhe Steelers Raiders were big rivals when they played for titles, now they’re nothing and Steelers/Ravens is the big rivalry.

Replace Miami with whatever school in the Coastal you want. Rivalries exist when teams are good and play games that have meaning aka for championships. Right now Pitt has no rival because none of their games matter.

And there were plenty of years that Pitt and West Virginia were in the Big East that they did not play the last game of the season. In 93, 94, 96, 03 and 06 the game was not on Thanksgiving weekend or the last game of the season. In 07 the game was the last game of the season but it wasn't Thanksgiving weekend, it was the weekend after Thanksgiving weekend. In 08, 09, 10 and 11 the WVU game was Thanksgiving weekend but was not the last game of the season.

Which rivalry with UM do you think is more important to them? FSU (62 games) because of conference affiliation, or UF (55 games)?
It might be lost in distant memory because of a hiatus, conf affiliation and the importance of those FSU games so many times, but UF and The U was a badass bitter rivalry.....

Miami actually has a rivalry with another school that you may have heard of. There is almost no chance that Pitt ever becomes Miami's rival. If it were to happen it would take so long that half of this board (or more) will be dead by then.

Obvious geography issue aside, they won 18 of the last 21 and two of our three wins were years they were rebuilding/had a losing record.

College football is different than pro sports, and that's what sarge25 really misses. Harvard and Yale will always be a big game even when the Ivy League title is not on the line. It's about tail gating, history, divided families, old fashion hate. If we can only have rivalry games when titles are on the line, have fun with one meaningful game every 20 years.

PSU and WVU are rivals because we compete for the same students, the same football players, and because it lets us throw potatoes at our inlaws on Thanksgiving. Miami will never be that when they have FSU. For that matter, their secondary rivals have been Florida, Notre Dame, and for the division -- Virginia Tech, well before us.

This will be the 3rd straight season that Bama and Clemson will play in the College Football Playoffs. I don't think Bama fans consider Clemson a rival anywhere close to Auburn. Proximity and tradition are the 2 most important aspects of a rivalry.

It is simple for me. Before the Sandusky thing I hated Penn St and wanted Pitt to beat them because that is one of the worst things you can do to them. After the Sandusky thing my level of hate is off the charts and I want to beat them because that is one of the worst things you can do to them. I do not understand how any Pitt fan doesn't want to play and beat them knowing a Pitt loses is one of the worst things you can do to the cult.

WVU is not as strong of a feeling and they obviously don't have the cult but again I enjoy seeing Pitt win knowing the losses to Pitt stings more to them. I know many fans from both schools and there is a lot of trash talking before the games. This is rivalry at it finest. Pitt has lacked a rivalry for too long most of you forgot how much fun it is.

As much as I want to beat penn state every year, we should just turn our backs on them.

Nothing against PSU, but I want more variety in the schedule in terms of P5s beyond them and also a desirable location for traveling to an away game. State College just has nothing to do outside of the game unless you just want to get drunk and take hits of meth.

Would like to see Utah get back on the schedule. That was a good series and a really nice trip. I think we had more fans travel there than to PSU this past year.

The Big 10 and Big Xll like to play all of their OOC games before conference play begins. There are times that they have to play an OOC game after they've played a conference game, but as a rule, once conference games begin, that's all they play.

They definitely like to finish the season with conference games.

Besides Miami, I would love to play another Florida school every year and WVCC. This would be best for the fan base and would help with recruiting. Forget PSU.

I think me and you are just different. What I am going to describe is sports and life to me, so it might not be shared by all. Sports is fun and entertainment. When I consider a team and their fanbase a rival, it removes the aspect of fun to me. I hate thier team and fanbase with every drop of blood in my body. I don’t want to see fans from both teams acting civil to each other. I want to see them both giving each other a big FU before, during and after the game. This is where I agree and appreciate how wvu treats rivalries. The problem with wvu is that they treat every game and every team with that same dissrespect.
