Everyone is comenting on macvittie going to a JC (which is good for him).
Many posters were excited about hom coming here.
But someone please explain to me why Pitt gave a scholarship to a QB who never threw a pass in a varsity game and yet has not offered one to a all state QB (Hollis Mathias-penn hills ) ?
Cant wait to see the opinions on this ?
Fyi-.befoe you respond please read the trib story on him.

Well, that isn't true and the QB in question isn't close to P5 material. Plus, he is only a JR, so he has lots of time to earn offers.

Pretty simple, MacV is tall, athletic, ran a 4.5 and had a strong arm. Played at a great high school, with good coaching. We took a chance and offered him early, and he said yes.

So you’ve obviously decided Pitt staff are idiots for not offering the kid yet. So an opinion is a waste of time based on your bias. Quick question though. Who are the other P5s that have offered the kid. From the tone of your post he has a ton of P5 offers. Would you please list his top 5 P5 offers. Thanks.

JC is his best chance to actually play.

He is a JR, so he has another year, but he has 0 FBS offers as of now.

Wait a gosh dang minute!!! Not one P5 offer? So we have another Einstein dogging Pitt for no offer yet not one other P5 has offered? Didn’t that just occur at PItt? The kid ended up at James Madison.

Great post

Uh I was being sarcastic because he didnt even have the facts right about McVitte. One of his major points was flat out wrong but other than that it was a great post..........well I guess he was wrong about the Penn Hills Kid too............LOL

Sorry man! I’m off my game tonight

For one macvittie did not throw a varsity pass until his senior year, he was a jv wide receiver.
He wasn't even rated until Pitt offered. Then he got his 3 star.
So some are saying Mathias isn't athletic ?
And yes both athletic qb's from good programs didn't pan out, and Penn hills is a good program on the rebound.
In case anyone forgot the last Penn hills kid in this situation turned out pretty good (Aaron Donald).
Read the story and see who the other qb's that got named are.
Posters are always crying we don't get good wpial kids but here is one with no offer from Pitt. Why can't (or won't) we get in early on him ?
Not calling the coaches idiots just certain posters (if the shoe fits).

Wrong. He was the backup QB as a jr, but did throw passes in his very limited time, and he was a varsity WR.

People were excited about Macvittie because he opened a lot of eyes and got a ton of interest with how he played his Sr year

Enter the double down on a weak post and weird narrative haha. You literally have no idea what your posting about. AD is great so I’ll give ya that one but I’m pretty sure everyone already knew that.

I’m thinking a more appropriate take would be.........the QB from Penn Hills looks like he has some talent. I’ve never seen him play. Don’t know his measurable. Anyone think he turns into a QB or athlete P5s would consider?

For real is this kid a P5 QB?

Look no further than the OC.
Jim Chaney was responsible for Ohio during his year here.

He completely whiffed in recruiting. The offensive players from that state in that class: MacVittie, Moss and Flowers.
Gone, gone, might be gone.

I havent heard that Flowers was leaving - what are the rumors there?

If I remember right, the coaching craziness (changing OC's) really hurt our QB recruiting that year. MacVittie was originally seen as 1 of 2 QB's that we were going to bring in, then everyone else went elsewhere and MacVittie sort of blew up with a good Sr. year. Chaney also new of MacVittie personally through either his dad or his coach. I can't remember which.

Would not be shocked to see FLowers transfer. French has proven himself. Then theres Tipton returning as well as Mathews. Coaches raved about Butler Jenkins and theres Smith and Street. Add in the Shockey and he may be buried on the depth chart. Kid had some chances this year and couldnt catch the ball

This is one of the more bizarre strings we've seen on the board lately, and that's saying a lot.

As you noted mcvitty was a reach necessitated by the coaching turnover. They just had no real viable proven and talented quarterbacks who they were able to get any traction on that late in the cycle for recruiting quarterbacks.

They took mcvittie because he had been training with Cheney, or was someone Chaney was familiar with, and he checked all the boxes from a physical standpoint.

The program isn't in the same place today as it was then, in fact with Watson returning for the first time under nards they have an offense of coordinator on board for more than one year.

So, they have a lot of offers out to kids with similar talent as mcvitty who actually have played quarterback already.

The answer is simple, no-one thinks he's good enough (other than you).

Come on man!!! Don't ya get it, everyone at penn hills will be Aaron Donald. I don't understand why we haven't offered the Ringgold QB because ... anyone ever heard of Joe Montana? In fact anyone see that new kid born in Bethlehem last night? Just saying keep an eye on that one

That Tom Flynn was a hell of a QB at PH. Maybe this kid switches positions and is a future NFL’er as well!
