We need an opponent for the opener next August 30. WE tentatively have Central Michigan for Sept.6 at WVU on SEPTEMBER 13 and a still to be determined date with ND probably sometime in OCTOBER or November. It is oblivious that we need to schedule an FCS TEAM so I have compiled a list of openings at this poi. As follows Elon, Charleston Southern, Rhode Island, Towson, Albany of New York, Villanova,William and Mary, Duquesne and LIU. There is also the possibility we can open with the CMU game and schedule an fCS team for SEPT. 20.Teams with openings are Tennessee Tech, Monmouth, Albany, Stony Brook, Forman, THE CitadeL, Austin Peay and Western Carolina. Could this be a match for the Bells. Which would you perfer?

lol, what a list of opponents. yeah pitt fans, go ahead and make those labor day plans now, we got townson, elon and charleston southern as likely opponents, you wont miss anything taking the family to the lake or cabin that weekend..

I select Duquesne. Playing an FCS team sucks but I know everyone does it. Playing Duquesne creates some interest for me. And I think you get 2000 or so Duquesne alums and students to buy tickets just for the "event." I'd play Duq or RMU every year in this slot if it were me.

OK would you rather schedule another FBS opponent maybe Alabama. Or Ohio STate .Very seldom if eve r does PItt start out September 4-0 or 3-1 for that matter!

FCS is a necessary evil, for the sole reason that - much like Seadoo - everybody's doin' it.

But my goodness are the games boring. They're a little more palatable in week 1, because it's been so long since you've watched live action, but from a strategic standpoint I actually like them more a little later because they're like having an extra bye week. For instance, we got to rest Des Reid this past week.

wait, those are my only options? FCS or ALabama / Ohio State? lol that's your response? we either have to schedule an FCS exhibition or the best team in the country.. no G5 teams, no lower/mid level P4 teams.. either Bama or FCS.

Well given those two options, i'll take duquesne on labor day weekend and i'll be at the lake with my family and i'll see you guys on tuesday here on pantherlair so we can discuss the first real game of our schedule the following weekend.

I know Kiffin made a fuss about Wake backing out of a game with Ole Miss. Was that for 2025? Maybe we can schedule Ole Miss. The two games with Tennessee were entertaining.

they are not a necesary evil. the ncaa or the conferences can quickly abolish this nonsense. Big 10 was actually pretty close to doing it only a few short years ago..

After they make the CFP this year they will be invited to play one of the big opening weekend matchups. Likely vs Alabama or Georgia in Atlanta or maybe or maybe texas in Dallas or Ohio st in Las Vegas. They are holding off scheduling the opponent for that reason

🤪🤪🤪

Pitt fans will be at the opening day game regardless of the opponent. I'm certainly booked, as I'm sure are most of the others that showed and had a great time tailgating and going to rib fest for the Kent St game this year. I'm pretty sure no one was there to watch Kent St.

Well it isn't abolished yet. So, until then, it would be insanity to skip out on the buy win. if it ain't too good for Alabama and Georgia...

They already play WVU and Notre Dame OOC. They absolutely should schedule and FCS as a home game. There is absolutely no value to Pitt in scheduling another P4 or a home and home with another G5.

The Big Ten actually did make a rule a few years ago that teams were not allowed to schedule any more FCS games. But they did allow games that were already scheduled to take place. I think they assumed that some of the other conferences would follow their lead, but none did. So after a couple of years they changed it to allow teams to schedule an FCS game only in the seasons that they had four conference home games. In the years they get five they are not allowed to schedule an FCS game.

Unless they just recently changed it again.

well it's a start in the right direction. now we need to get other conferences to follow.

Duquesne 1000%. Definitely NOT Western Carolina.

I go to watch Pitt Football no matter who the opponent is and have a great time tailgating enjoying the North Shore.

It’s done practically every year by practically everybody.

I’d guess they already have fcs inked to complete the next 2 years but it’s Pitt and new AD so

Zelda we go to all the home games every year believe it. Also went in the 90s when Pitt was bad at Pitt Stadium. That's why i have season tickets all these years.

ok and i believe you and that's awesome but come on man, you cant tell me that you dont get more excited for a pitt clemson game, or a pitt vs virginia game to clinch the acc championship than you do a game against youngstown st on labor day weekend??

You are telling us that you were just as excited and entertained watching pitt beat new hampshire by 70 points in heinz field as you were a month later watching pitt square off against a ranked Clemson team and winning?

Pitt vs WVU or PSU or even NOtre dame at home is the same as playing Rhode Island in early september?

That's the nonsense i call out. Pitt fans saying the opponent doesnt matter, all games are equal and im just there to watch pitt. im not buying it.

That is a complete strawman argument and not what anyone is saying. Any game I go to, for any sport, I go to specifically watch Pitt and support Pitt. I am a Pitt fan first, second, and third. It doesn't have to be a great match up for me to enjoy it or have a good time. Tailgates at football happen regardless of the opponent. Pitt playing well is way more important than the opponent. A better game is great, but it doesn't determine when I show up. What determines whether I show up is whether Pitt is playing, and that is all that matters.

i dont even get what you are arguing. Sure, we can all have a good time at a game regardless of the opponent, especially with tailgating. hell, i can have a good time at any event if i can tailgate. i tailgated for a freakin Traffic concert out at starlake in the late 90s and had a blast, me and a few friends were the only people there under the age of 60. i've pre-gamed for a viewing at a funeral home and in hindsight, it was a good night..

you saying you go to pitt games because pitt playing is making my head hurt. i dont even know how to reply to that. of course pitt is playing at a pitt game, it's a pitt game. if pitt wasnt playing, it wouldnt be called a pitt game.

I thought that Pitt reached out to Duquesne and it was almost set before some Dukes alumni stepped in and snuffed it out at the last minute. I seem to recall a thread discussing this last year?

Duquesne: The City Game!

Also, I'd like to see a Temple/Rutgers/Navy rotation. Those are areas we recruit, and it'd be nice to have a presence there, imho.

Of course you don't know how to reply to that, because you've already indicated that you only attend games where you find the opponent worthwhile otherwise you'll be "taking the family to the lake or cabin."

Meanwhile, the other 40K or so actual Pitt fans are planning to be at the open day game regardless of the opponent, because, you know, Pitt is the reason they are showing up in the first place.

That doesn't so much indicate you are a fan of Pitt as much as you are only a fan of watching what you hope to be competitive games.
i went to the youngstown state game, the one that was over by halftime and we won by 60 points. the game that had 75 people in the stands in the fourth quarter, i was one of them.

so there goes that argument, i'll give you a mulligan though. try again..

pitt fans claiming they get just as excited about fcs games as they do ranked teams at home lol, what a hill to die on. i love it.. dont ever stop this dumb false argument, ever.

Again with your strawman...and I'll quote you..."you wont miss anything taking the family to the lake or cabin that weekend.."

i was at youngstown st game, if you are a pitt fan and didnt go, you didnt miss anything.

I was at the umass and new hampshire games in 2021, you know the ones we won by 60 and 70 points? If you are a pitt and and didnt go, you absolutely didnt miss anything.. I did go to the UVA game that year. It was a million times better, more exciting, meant 10 xs as much (if not more) and the crowd was much more enthusiastic.

if you missed those two games, you absolutely missed some great games..

ACC conference games > fcs games

Games against ranked opponents > fcs games

psu, wvu or ND games against pitt > fcs games

Getting a colonoscopy from a male doctor and realizing during the exam, both of his hands are on your shoulders ≥ FCS games

Of course you missed something if you didn't go to YSU. You get about 7 chances to watch Pitt at home per year. That's also only 7 times someone gets to tailgate out of 52 weekends a year. You missed out on one of only 7 chances to watch Eli Holstein at home and who knows how many years, if any after this season, he'll be at Pitt, let alone watching a Pitt QB go for 247 through the air and 93 on the ground with 5 TDs. You missed Carter going for over 100 yards. You missed homecoming. You missed Pitt clinching its first undefeated out-of-conference season since it left independence and first time it started 4-0 in 24 years. You missed one of the five largest offensive outputs of yardage in Pitt football history. I don't know about you, but I've been to a lot of Pitt games, home and away, and I've not been witness to may games where Pitt has put up 70+ points and had a 50+ point margin of victory (UMass in 2021 was a 44 point margin, and yes, I bet people now realize in retrospect that soaking in every game they could in 2021 was worthwhile). Was there much drama? no, but there was history. And every game has the chance to be historic.
