Unfortunately... it was still more than $400K/year less than what LSU offered him.

But at least we know Pitt is willing to pony up... at least within reason.

That would mean LSU paid him over $1.7 MM as Chad Morris was making $1.3MM

Not highest paid *EVER*.... highest paid *CURRENTLY*.

Chad Morris isn't coaching in the ACC anymore.

Pitt offered Canada roughly $900k. He accepted LSU's offer of $4M/3years.

Here is the thing. If LSU was offering 1.3 million Pitt knew that MC wasn't going to take 900k. So it was a offer to try and save face with the fans. They can now claim well we offered him as much as anyone in the ACC. I would put money down they don't offer the New guy 900k.

And now the downplay and woah is me.

And it depends who the next candidate is.

Some of you are predictable and miserable.

He won't be there 3 years with his track record

Except Pitt offered him the raise more than a week ago. I know that doesn't fit your narrative, though.

Wish I had a 3 year deal for $4million on the table...good for him. We tried to keep him but couldn't. Nard will find another good one.

Well if they pay close to that I will gladly come on here and claim I was wrong. But when they offer the next guy 500k sorry I am not buying it. I have seen this way to often with the pirates. They claim they tried to add at the trade deadline but teams just wanted to much then other teams go out and make the big deals.

It will depend on who the next guy is. His salary will be based on the market and his resume. We shall see.

if it was only 400k i think matt would have chosen narduzzi over ed.

if we really did offer that much money i guess we can hire pretty much any oc in college football, proof is in the pudding with the next hire.

Lol at "only 400K".

You realize that $400K... by itself.... would be more than half of the FBS OCs currently *MAKE*?

That is crap...

give me a break, if you lead a company, and a good employee leaves, you offer what you can give him, you cant make your company go belly up keeping a guy. We offered a very good counter, and gave Matt something to consider.

LSU's offer was "over $1million per year for 3 years."

Bump in the road. Canada has been super-hyped and given 100% credit for the accomplishments of this year's offensive. Where is the adulation for Andre Powell, ST and RB coach, and Peterson, OL coach ? A perfect storm for Canada and he wisely grabbed the pile of cash thrown at him. .Nardz will replace Canada with an equally productive OC. With this administration and HC ,we shall continually improve on our way back to national prominence.

It's easy to say that's the offer or would have....the proof is in the results.

on one hand your saying salem will be the next oc. on the other hand your posting how we made an offer to make canada the highest paid oc in acc. that is some weird logic you have going on.

It makes sense that Pitt would be willing to offer Canada $900k... AFTER the incredible success the offense had this year. He looked like the best OC in the ACC and now has proven he deserves to be paid as such.

That doesn't mean that Pitt should offer $900k to the next OC. They still need the guy to prove himself with Pitt's offense and they need to leave themselves some room should they need to give him a raise.

Still, I wouldn't be surprised if they were willing to pay more than what Canada got this year. $575-$700k range sounds about right. Unless Pitt just promotes from within (inwhich case I could see them paying $500 or less).

Well, if true then I'm glad to know that Pitt tried and didn't just put their hands up. If we go cheap with the replacement then I'll be back to being skeptical.

Canada did a great job at PITT this year!
Not sure where all this "brilliance" was when he was at NC State. He didn't appear to be a " hot commodity" in past years.
Its nice that PITT made an effort to retain him but I'm also glad we didn't overpay
since with his track record of constantly looking for jobs he'd vanish after next season!
Maybe we go with someone older with a good track record who isn't interesting in moving around or someone younger who will have to stay 2-3 yrs to build up the resume?
Or Salem?

I don't know what business you work in, but you don't just pay the replacement the same you were willing to pay the previously successful candidate to stay. That would be madness.

The chance we hire someone with the resume to warrant paying them top 5 OC money is essentially zilch. That doesn't mean they weren't willing to commit to Canada.

Pitt was negotiating with Canada on a new deal long before this LSU job came up. This is what they were going to pay him so don 't make it look like they were going to stiff Canada if the LSU offer didn't come up. Canada reportedly turned down 3 other jobs, probably from programs that couldn't compete with Pitt's new offer.

And no, 900 probably won't be what they offer a new guy in his first year. That offer to canada was there based on what he did at Pitt. But I would bet that kind of money would be available if Narduzzi wants to hire a higher profile guy.

It will be Salem or a younger OC who needs some years to strengthen his resume.
A high profile OC spells one year and out the door ( again) to a HC job somewhere if he does well!

Under the old jackass AD, I would totally agree with this.

Now I don't.

Quit living in the horror years and join the rest of us!

This .... And some pretty darn good players

Canada was very successful here, much more that at Wisconsin or NC State. I'm sure a large part of that was because Narduzzi put his full trust and confidence in Canada to run the offense his way.
