Pitt / Syracuse Thursday 10/24 Fitz Bobblehead

This should help attendance on a Thursday , no ?

"They will also give a limited number of Larry Fitzgerald bobbleheads to fans who arrive early"

How much it will help probably hinges on how limited the handout is. If people think they need to be in the stadium an hour before kickoff to get one, it probably won't help much.

If the handout is too limited, most of the bobble heads will end up in the hands of scalpers that buy the cheapest tickets possible to walk in as soon as the gates open, get a bobble head, then leave immediately.

I saw that too after I posted. Limited number could mean 50k or 25k , who knows but I still like the idea.

I have been to home games during the week before, and I think this is a good idea.

It is a great idea. Yinzers love their bobbleheads.

I think I'd rather see something like this at an already big event type game, whether it's WVU or something like Homecoming. Thursday night seems like such an afterthought and not the best time to honor one of your all-time greats. Then again, maybe that is when he was available.

It’s also to try to draw fans. That’s the reason for this.

I thought the Riverhounds did one of the coolest promos I've ever seen. Instead of a Mount Rushmore, they did a Mount Washington of Riverhounds soccer statue thing.

Who would be on Pitt's Mount Washington?

Dorsett
Marino
Green
Donald

I was at the game when they gave away the James Conner Bobblehead against NC State. Was a great crowd in the first half before Pitt started losing pretty bad. I could be wrong but I thought they may have said first 30k got one.

The promo for the Syracuse game during the Cal game today said the first 7,000 fans in the stadium get a bobblehead. I hate when promos like this are that limited. I'd like to get one, but don't know that I want one bad enough to enter the stadium an hour+ before kickoff to ensure I get one.

Honestly, no clue. 7,000 would mean if the total crowd is 40,000; you'd need to be in the first 17.5% of fans entering the stadium to get one.

I'd assume they have a certain number of them at each gate. If the distribution to each gate is equal; then you might have better luck entering a lower traffic gate. If they adjust the distribution by typical gate traffic; then maybe not.

They did also say there would be a select few randomly distributed bobbleheads that are autographed by Larry; so a couple people will hit the lottery and get a nice extra with theirs.

Those bobbleheads sell for $10 on ebay. There will be 3 scalpers who do this.

Nice idea, BUT only giving them out to the first 7.000 people (if I heard that correctly at the game) is not a good idea and it makes the school look cheap.

Bobbleheads should be reserved for kids first. Then the adults can get any leftovers after the game.

You could just have enough for everyone. Problem solved.

Of course that creates another problem, when you have 40,000 bobbles to cover for the potential crowd and then only 20,000 people actually show up. Which is surely what they are trying to avoid with this 7,000 nonsense.

I think it’s more that Pitt doesn’t want to spend the money on 20k bobbleheads. Pitt is 6-0 playing a 5-1 conference opponent. 7k is a ridiculously low number to produce.

Well they probably had to make the order to get these produced months ago, so whether we were 6-0 or 2-4 doesn't really have anything to do with it.

But I agree, 7,000 is a really small number that doesn't make much sense.

I wonder if the thinking was that if we buy (and announce that we are giving away), say 20,000 or 25,000 of them and then we don't even give all them away we won't be able to announce that there were 39,729 people there.

Where did you see 7000? Is that confirmed? I am going to have to get there at 4PM.

They showed it on the scoreboard during the Pitt/Cal game when running a promo for the Syracuse game. I tried to find the same graphic on the Pitt Athletics website that they had on the scoreboard; but if it was there I couldn't find it.

I don't know where people find the room to put stuff like this. I still have a few (Conner, I think Hillgrove, and some others) down in my basement in a box, but I'm sure they won't survive many more purges.

My ex's mom is married to someone who had an Ohio State-themed game room, and I kind of thought it was hokey. Although maybe not as hokie as a Virginia Tech room would have been.

I'm pretty sure it was also in an email they sent out that I got, but I'm not going to bother going back and looking for it.

OK, I went back and looked. It was in the email that the sent out on Sunday morning about winning the game on Saturday. Same graphic as the one they showed during the game. A picture of the bobble with the caption "First 7,000 fans receive a Larry Fitzgerald bobblehead"

Thanks for that, I hadn't read that email. Here the graphic and the link to the online version of the email to anyone interested.

Pitt IS 6-0!

In this tweet from today(10/17/2024) from the Athletics department X account they changed the graphic from saying 7,000 to "Limited quantities available" so maybe they put a rush order in on some additional units(or maybe someone dropped and broke a pallet of them and there are even less now)?
