Pitt to Military

Duke, Louisville, and NCSU all in better bowls despite finishing behind Pitt in the ACC.

AD will spin this, but this is a gut punch.

Our fans get what they deserve. Team maybe not, but fans who haven't bought bowl tickets through Pitt in the past can STFU.

This will also be an annual occurrence unless that attitude towards bowl travel changes. Don't hold your breath.

The NCAA should control the bowls, not the other way around. The process sucks.

Still, look on the bright side -- its at a location that most Pitt fans can drive to, and its against a top 25 opponent, and its a nice town. The bowls in El Paso and Shreveport, or where ever may be perceived as higher, or had teams picked who were weaker than Pitt, but the Military Bowl in Annapolis on its own, isn't bad. And Navy -Pitt will actually get decent ratings, higher than VT against what ever crappy team they're playing.

Jesus. You act surprised when you were one whining about new york. That a the exact attitude that is the issue.

Pitt is lucky it has ANY fans at all with the stupid, cheap, moronic decisions and the resultant crappy product put on the field the past 30 years.
Spin it anyway you want CrazyPaco but this is a terrible result for a team that finished 8-4 and beat U of L by double digits and Duke and VT on the road. I would like to know how the ACC let us fall to a Tier II Bowl game? It's either pathetic treatment by the ACC or poor management by the Athletic Department - perhaps both. But yeah, follow the typical Pitt Administration party line : "It's the fans fault".

Still waiting on your fraud ass to go off and cheer for Louisville and their whores like you've repeatedly promised.

You=MAJOR LOSER and absolutely one of the DUMBEST pieces of shit on the internet.

Absolutely getting passed by bowls is the fault of frauds like you who call themselves fans. You can Shut the F*(K. You have no right to bitch one iota.

I'm ordering my 4 tickets for Annapolis, so don't give me any shit.

That doesn't make this not a PR disaster for Pitt.

Oh shove it. Your attitude is exactly why the pinstripe didn't take us. "It's New York, it is the day after Christmas, I can't make it!"

Screw You Paco. Pitt's Administration needs to stand front and center and take responsibility for the current situation. Tell us again how tearing down Pitt Stadium was a smart move to build a 12,000 seat basketball arena.

Screw You Paco.

You're not a Pitt man...you're likely not even a man. Pathetic piece of trash. Pitt is infinitely better off without your garbage. Pathetic, rock bottom, dumb ass loser that has proven repeatedly too stupid to understand anything of fact or context so why bother to continue to explain anything to something with less intelligence than your average house cat?

Go cheer for your idol Jurich and his whore program. You are as sad and pathetic as the worst of the cult pedo nitters.

Other than the playoff bowls, they are all totally meaningless exhibition games. They are extra practice for next year, content for the networks, and business for the hotels. The check from the ACC is the same no matter what bowl. Tier 1, Tier 2, who cares? I was just hoping for Detroit so I could go. The only thing I don't get about this is why does Navy get a home game? Home game for a bowl? That makes no sense. A lot of alums live in the Balt DC area so they should be happy.

Why would the Sun Bowl vs Washington St or Pinstripe Bowl vs Indiana be better? I am more excited playing a good Navy team. If you want better bowls, then you must attend the bowls and show support. Pretty Simple

It just chaps my ass that NCSU and Louisville get to play high profile SEC teams in better bowls, despite being clearly inferior teams to Pitt.

Sun bowl is better because it's the Sun bowl.
Agree about Indiana and the Pinstripe.

I should have guessed that's who you were talking to.
I put that poster on ignore quite a while ago.

Agree, all 3 7-5 teams (2 Pitt actually beat) seemingly were chosen over Pitt.
Maybe Pitt will show up strong to this and it will help next year.

Military bowl is a disappointment. Face it, we don't draw. However, based on prior Navy games in Annapolis Pitt represents very well there (lot of Pitt grads in Wash DC, Virginia, Balt market. Should draw well. Maybe Barnes plan is for Pitt to demonstrate they can bring fans to this game (which, based on past experience it should) and then have more leverage in future years to argue that Pitt fans travel to bowl games. Sadly, if Pitt went to Sun or Pinstripe then Pitt is stuck paying for its allotment. From a business and strategy perspective it is a good approach.

You would think, but,
We'll see. I think the allotment will be 10k.
Pitt loves Navy, Navy is ranked, Pitt can drive.
Anything less than selling all is definatley a future resume buster.

If that is Barnes strategy...and we don't really know what his strategy was but he is one of the only people privy to both bowl ticket reservation numbers and historical travel and bowl sale numbers. If his strategy is to try to fix Pitt's traveling reputation by getting Pitt fans into an away stadium that they typically show up in better than any other, than it is not a bad strategy. But Pitt fans have to respond by actually buying tickets through Pitt so that they are counted. This comes back to Narduzzi's pre-season tour where he went around begging for Pitt fans to help. It is up to Pitt fans to help going forward. The people only taking the time to bitch on the message boards aren't helping one iota, and frankly, they can STFU because the reason we have gotten passed over, and will continue to get passed over for bowls is because, compared to the other mediocre programs we've faced in bowl games the past 15 years, our fan base has not showed up. It is that simple, and anyone that has gone to bowl games knows this.

And we are now in a conference with schools that travel better and are geographically located closer to bowl games than when we were in the Big East with primarily northeastern schools. It isn't going to improve unless fans decide to heed Narduzzi's call.

If PITT beats a ranked Navy team we'll all be happy!
Alll this arguing is like standing in your front yard and yelling at a family member.
Take it in the house so no one hears stuff!

If it's true that our AD actually 'asked' for a bowl in driving distance, than that's one MAJOR screw up his sheet. How this insult of a disgrace of a bowl game isn't going to hurt us, both in perception and in REALITY, is beyond me. Unbelievable...

How is that screwing up? Explain how actually trying to sell more bowl tickets and facing a ranked team is screwing up. Explain how the college football world views playing Indiana in the Pinstripe bowl the day after Christmas as so much more prestigious than playing a ranked Navy team in Annapolis on the 28th?

But mostly, what bowls did you reserve on your bowl ticket reservation sheet? What bowl games have you attended in the past?

Jeez, Chucky. Where have you been?

Wow, and I thought playing Indiana would have been bad. This flat out sucks. Probably the worst bowl they could have gotten us.

Just lurking, because all you guys are arguing and calling each others names quite well without my help. Just decided to pull back for a while. I'm no longer very concerned about Pitt because of getting Nards and getting in the ACC. Finally stability, and Pitt is gonna be just fine. Stadium, script Pitt, Wlat, Wanny, attendance, UPS, fish sammich, an all dat.

What a profoundly dumb assertion. Buffoons like Nordenberg and Pedersen and their predecessors nearly killed Pitt FB with their incompetence and indifference. Pitt fans would have been brain dead to support either these idiots or the pathetic product they put on the field. Only idiots blame Pitt fans for the state of Pitt FB and attendance.

The Pinstripe in New York wanted Duke and its Wall Street alums. The Music City in Nashville wanted Louisville for proximity. The Sun in El Paso, Texas was good with Miami's brand recognition. Done, done and done.
The Belk wanted the Hokies, but the ACC does not allow a Tier One bowl to select a 6-6 team instead of an 8-4 squad, and with Pitt still on the board, Virginia Tech was unavailable. So the Belk chose N.C. State.

If you’re reading this that none of the Tier One bowls wanted Pitt, you’re correct. The Panthers had a terrific year under new coach Pat Narduzzi but don’t travel particularly well — their final two home games, against Louisville and Miami, drew announced crowds of 42,119 and 40,126 to 68,400-seat Heinz Field.
