Pitt Preseason Prediction August 2015:
Virginia:
Tough game, let me say it again, this will be a very tough game. London has at least 6 players on Defense that will play on Sunday in the NFL. The defense will be hard to beat just like last year. The entire Virginia Offense is back but they will have problems at QB. Special Teams may be the difference and I will favor Pitt on that outcome by a squeaker? The Pitt Defense should be playing better by now, but injuries could be killing Pitt by this time too?
Preseason Prediction:
PITT- 24 Virginia-23 (4-1)

PITT-Virginia Game Day Prediction:
This game always frighten me because it is usually close? Virginia has played against far tougher teams than Pitt against UCLA, ND, and Boise and have had 2 weeks to prepare for Pitt with nothing to lose? They have the Defense that can stop Boyd, Ollison and rush Peterman. Yet, Pitt has the Defense that will surprise Virginia too, no matter how much they have prepared, because it comes down to exquisite execution. Pitt Players are now Disciples of Coach Pat & Staff embracing the "Can=Nuzz Attitude" with diligent discipline to execute Game Plans and will be the difference in this game. Pitt cannot underestimate anyone this year and they won’t against Virginia and they will win this game. If Chad Voytik and Jordan Whitehead plays much more on offense Pitt can win even bigger, but Peterman is due for an impressive game? There is no reason why Voytik can be put in with Peterman for some screens and slot passes razzle dazzle too.
PITT-Virginia Tech Game Day Prediction:
24 PITT Virginia 15

LAST WEEK:
Preseason Prediction:
@Virginia Tech:
Pitt Players going up against a very experienced Offense and Defense after bushwhacking them at home last year makes it a very tough game to win. There are just 4 Sophomore Starters on this team, and the game is away at VT. Sorry can’t see a Pitt win this time even if we beat them last year?
Preseason Prediction:
Pitt- 27 VIRGINIA TECH-34 (3-1)

Game Day Prediction:
Pitt and Virginia Tech last games have Pitt winning two of three, 35-17-2012, 21-16-2014, and losing 9-19-2013 so Pitt has handled and can compete against Beamer dating back to the Walt Harris Era! The rain will cause some problems for both teams and Pitt’s Pat & Staff has had 2 weeks to prepare for the hungry Hokies upset with an ECU loss. Coach Pat failed against Iowa's Ferentz so now we shall see how does against Beamer. Very tough call with so many Chaney's Pitt Offense Unknowns over injuries, QB snaps, Wideouts besides Boyd, Weather, and Chaney Game Plans, but I like where the Pitt Defense "WHITE-HEADng"! This the game introduce some Jordan Whitehead Offensive 5 to 8 Plays to help open up running and Boyd offset? Bottom line, if Pitt Coaches cannot figure out how to run in the rain it cannot win in the air in this game? Pitt could lose as they did against Iowa or Steelers last night, by a kick or less? Yet, even if my Head tells me to select the “Beamer’s Highlight Low Techs” I am going with Coach Pat & Staff surprising the Hokies at Home. I believe in Pitt’s Pat & Staff figuring it out when to throw to not 1 but 2 Big Tight Ends and run "Chad Voytik Running Vortex" if Peterman has a "Raining Day Game?" If Chaney waits too long to make such a change with “Peterman Rain” he may not be at Pitt next year if Pit loses another game it could win? The “Chryst -Sake”, "Wanny-Wanting" and "GraHAM-Scram Pitt Eras are either over or just continues to grow under another New Head Coach with a different name? Still, to Coach Pat credit, I see signs of improvements on Defense and Special Teams and we shall see on game day…..but True Intelligence Comes From the Heart. I am going with Coach Pat & Staff and PITT IS IT!
Preseason Prediction:
Pitt- 27 VIRGINIA TECH-34 (3-1) Grade F
Game Day Prediction:
27 PITT Virginia Tech 24 (3-1) Grade C

GAME DAY RESULT:
17 PITT VT 13
Once again, Pitt beat VT Hokies this time with New Coach Pat Narduzzi, that had a good game plan, coached up the defense, and proved Pitt players never quit anymore in any game. Last week Pitt Offense got a TD in the last minute only to lose with a great Kick. this week the defense made sure that did not happen again an just stuffed VT Offense and any comeback into the last minutes of this game. On to Virginia with greater confidence building every game! Off by 10 and 11 Points for C-!

This game Saturday has all of the trappings of another WTF Pitt moment. Right now, things are looking up and the team looks like it may get on a roll. When that happens, the bullet goes through the balloon.

Pitt should beat Virginia; and the debacles and letdowns are in the past in a different regime. Coach Duzz have brought molten steel balloons, and Pitt rolls 27-7.

Pitt 31-13

With Virginia's propensity for throwing interceptions and our D's propensity for causing trouble for QB's, Pitt could get 7-14 points off of great field position alone. Expect 2 TD's from Peterman (as expected, Boyd & Holtz) plus 1-2 from the running game when deep in the red zone. Virginia's D can disrupt the QB at times, but Peterman has shown he can find his TE's and RB's when Boyd isn't open, plus it looks like we're back to having a running game (but hopefully not Peterman's running game). Virginia's offense has been sub-par all year, and it's predicated on a stays-in-the-pocket QB who has thrown a ton of picks, so our blitzing/stunting front 7 will tee off on Matt Jones and Maddox/Whitehead/Webb will have opportunities for highlights (seriously, when is Mitchell going to be well enough to move back to CB and supplant Pitts?).

Pitt's offense may not look great on Saturday, but with some short fields off of turnovers and plenty of drives since our D will force a lot of punts, we could score 30+ with less than 350 yards of offense, but we *should* be able to be in the 400 neighborhood now that we're not playing in a downpour or at Iowa.

The easiest money to be made this weekend is right here. Take Virginia plus the points.

This UVA team though not very good, had ND beaten.

This VT team, which Pitt beat in Lane Stadium....flat out stinks on offense.

Pitt showed Saturday they can run the ball a little. This should improve as James comes back and Ollie gets more reps.

But....it still is Pitt. They will find a way to cough up a sure victory.....and struggle to win in unimpressive fashion.

I don't see Virginia putting up more than 17 points against our defense.

We just need to score more points.

Edit: A pick six by one of the Ws (Whitehead or Webb).

Pitt 24
Virginia 10

I never bet on or against Pitt, just avoid it. The Points is exactly why I am avoiding betting anything on this game, but your views are exactly why I won't do it too!

The UVA Team is very good, but the Coaching has the Players playing sloppy, the UVA Players have a number of Top Talent Positions, but it reminds me of Wannstedt/Graham Teams, whereby Off-sides, Penalties, and lack of focus and discipline happens way to often to win key games. Yet, if anyone takes them lightly they can beat you, just like Wannstedt beat WVU, USF, and some other Teams in Games they were prepared to play for with focus and discipline.

This VT team, which Pitt beat in Lane Stadium....flat out stinks on offense.
No question you are right, but Pitt Defense has been improving every game and not just in VT but since YSU and against Iowa and away!

What worries me is the Pitt Offense is still unknown and not living up to its potential. But the Pitt players have been playing far better under Coach Narduzzi than other Coaches before but UVA is exactly the test Pitt needs to see if it is for real or will it be like you say, Pitt will have a let down at Pitt?

Uva 24
I can see your points on taking the UVA Points and I my 9 point prediction is right on the cusp but Pitt could wake up and win big too? But not betting this game either way until I see Pitt play a complete game on Defense, Offense, and Special Teams!

If it happens it should happen in this game, if not.... then rebuilding continues, if Pitt loses you are spot on and I can't argue otherwise? I like what I see from this Coaching Staff by how the Players are responding, but I need to see it on offense too!

Excellent Post From You!

I think the defense can keep things going, but the offense will still sputter and have to settle for a couple of FGs early. I think the TD's come late. H2P

A UVa alum tells me they have a great return man but they really struggle against teams who can clog the middle and bring pressure.
This game is a textbook looming Same Ole Pitt moment, but the defense only seems to get better and Narduzzi will put Voytik in quickly enough if the offense isn't producing. Hey...maybe it'll even be a 4th quarter comeback.

Another huge game for Ejuan Price tomorrow I think. Offensively, I think Ollison leads the way. Good defensive showing and controlling the line of scrimmage, Pitt wins easily.

Ha... Peterman to Voytik to Boyd... The guy throwing it is even wearing #16.
Pitt has Tight End Orndoff that was a QB in High School and has a Great Arm too, and could be used on a Razzle Dazzle Play like that above, or run like a sweep behind the QB and being pitched the ball and he pitches it back to QB as the UVA Players come crashing in and UVA LBs and DBs step up just as either Peterman, Voytik, or Orndoff passes it down field to Boyd for a TD!!!

But Chaney is just trying to get Peterman to read his coverages, make the simple Plays, and get used to all the Players and Plays on the Offense and I understand that is the smart thing to do since he believes in Peterman's Passing Abilities.

Yet, getting a Winning TD early or a TD at a key time also opens up an entire New Game Plan for UVA to adjust too, and Pitt just has the Talent in throwing a play like that, that Chris Petersen at Washington used to beat USC last night in a close win?

Now USC has 40 Four-Five Star Recruits but got beat by Petersen that took over Washington???? That is Great Coaching! This is what I expect from Narduzzi and Chaney too on Offense!

And after reading the posts by You, The Baby2, DRVY, and many more too, just wondering when Chaney gets it all together, because this Pitt Offensive Team has Experience, Talent, and Smarts to figure it out! WHEN IS THE QUESTION NOW???

Ollison and the Pitt O-Line has had 4 Games to get it together without Connor, same with other Wideouts, and we have 2 of the Best Tight Ends in College Football, and 2 Experienced QBs with multiple abilities.....And One New Head Coach Dependent On A Experienced But NEW OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR That Is Trying To Figuring It All Out Right Now!

It Is The 5th Game & Time for Chaney to start to show some improvements on the Offense like we have seen by Conklin on Defense?????

Chaney decided to make changes in the Offense so start showing you can get it done with the experience and abilities of this Pitt Team has in its Players abilities????

Time to change Pitt from Being Pitt like under previous coaches! This Pitt team has talent and experience within its players and coaches, time to see it tomorrow about 12:30 PM!

The defense will likely fly around the field, containing their big play WR (Severin), who is very similar to Bucky Hodges from VT. Narduzzi will keep this team grounded, especially since they lost in Charlottesville last year.

On offense, this team really needs to get things going very early. This game hinges on the play of UVA's D vs. the PITT O. There were far too many possessions deep in VT's territory last week which didn't result in points. You can't play too many of those games without it coming back to haunt you.

This week, I look for an energized offensive line which will continue to improve throughout the season, giving Peterman more time, as well as providing some running lanes for Ollison and James to make an impact.

Prediction:

PITT: 31
UVA: 17

I agree and we shall see but great points and post!

Absolutely spot on and time for Chaney to step it up with his plays and players execution being far better than it has been. Connor has been gone for 4 Games, Pitt has the talent on offense and experience from last year, Chaney better figure it out tomorrow!

No reason why this can't and should happen! If Pitt's Offense comes together with its Defense Play Improvements over the last 4 games, Pitt can have a great season! Now Light This Cathedral Of Learning Candle and teach it to all the Players on all 3 Units so it become the Spot Light Pitt needs to become a Top 25 Program!

Prediction:
PITT: 31
UVA: 17

Pitt 35-10.

We roll - they quit.
Just talked to a Bookie he does not like the Points either and wondering what happen to the Pitt offense that was working great last year?

He thinks UVA won't be able to run, but he also feel the Pitt players over rushing will result in many screens and short passes, he is worried about the game too, but confident Pitt will win. He also says if Pitt offense ever wakes up they will have great year!

I think this Pitt team plays with too much fire to lose to a team like Virginia. As fans let's create a real atmosphere tomorrow and support the kids. That's something this program needs, the players to feel like they represent something. The effort is definitely there, with our support I think we can finally stop losing games at home that we shouldn't.
Obviously the fans don't win or lose ballgames, but it makes us look better. Kids want to play for good coaches at schools where the fans support them every week. We got a real steal with Narduzzi, and Gallagher as well as Barnes seem committed too. As minor of a role as it is we need to do our part now too to really make Pitt a place kids want to play football.
H2P! No letdown tomorrow, our defense is the real deal!

What are the chances under previous regimes that through 5 games we'd have a blocked punt for TD, a safety, and blocked extra point. Special Teams is huge, yet Narduzzi is the first coach we've had to take it seriously. Gonna need a huge defensive or special teams play this week IMO.
