At Virginia on Friday....
  • Virginia is 4th in the ACC.....17 - 4 record
  • Good wins against Florida State and Miami....both 3 - 0 sweeps....and lost to 25th ranked UNC in 5 sets
  • Their OCS was not particularly competitive but they do have an RPI of 36
  • This is a team that has received votes in the NCAA weekly poll....so they have tournament aspirations
  • They put up 16.5 pts/set (Pitt is 18.9) and give back 7.7 pts/set (Pitt is 5.9)
  • Expect a Pitt win....but Virginia is probably not a team that will be easy to put away in a 3 set sweep at home
  • Pitt cannot take this team lightly.
At Virginia Tech on Sunday...
  • The Hokies are not competitive at all....17th in the ACC
  • Their RPI is 200.....the worst of any team in the ACC
  • They are 7 - 13 with one win against Clemson in the ACC
  • They only score 15.3 pts/set and give back 9.1 pts/set....taken together these are bad numbers and explains their poor record
  • This will be an easy win for Pitt.....and Fisher should be able to substitute freely and rest his starters.
  • If that doesn't happen....the trip back to Pittsburgh will not be pleasant.

Thanks for the summary. Excellent. UVA definitely cannot be taken lightly. My feeling is they’re a team similar to what we would face in the second round of the tournament. Take care of business on Friday and get a lot of players in the match on Sunday

UVA won't make the tournament because a border line school from the SEC will get that spot but there isn't any reason UVA can't be a good program. There is plenty of good club volleyball in that region.

As of right now I agree.....32 automatic bids and 32 at large. For the ACC....I see 5 invites....including the team that gets the ACC automatic bid. That would be Pitt, Louisville, Stanford, SMU, and GT. I think their will be a 6th team between Florida State, UNC, and Virginia.......with Virginia as the dark horse. I never imagined 4 years ago that the ACC could have 6 invites to the tournament. There's still 10 more matches that most teams have in November.....so a lot can change.

The ACC's problem is that UNC and Virginia haven't played anyone that matters outside of the conference and FSU has lost some head scratchers. The SEC is bad and that's what ticks me off. Outside of Texas, there isn't much else but at least some of their questionable programs have played a game or two in OOC that mattered.

Isn't Kentucky pretty good?

Kentucky and Texas for sure....also probably Florida. Beyond that Texas A&M, Missouri, and Arkansas have a shot. If these last 3 get in from the SEC.....then so should Florida State, UNC, and Virginia from the ACC in my view. Every team has about 10 matches to play in November.....so a lot can change.

The college volleyball has been asking that question for a few years now. They rarely beat ranked teams but enjoy a lot of hype.
also probably Florida
Florida beat FSU but has a couple of bad losses.

This is kind of the issue with the SEC. Outside of the conference, nobody has a great resume? Even Texas has warts like Miami and Minnesota. At least they beat Wisconsin but they also got swept by Stanford.
